First time posting bought a 2007 6.7 in may looking to change fuel filter I am confused to which filter I would need I don't if I need one with or without shell or without.

I would add that in step two it helps to loosen the filter then open the drain valve to get the canister to drain fully. You shouldn't be swimming in fuel when you take it off. Step six says to turn the key on but you need to tap the starter and leave the key in the on position for the pump to run. If you just turn it on without tapping the starter the pump doesn't run.

My truck runs the pump as soon as you turn the key on, no need to bump the starter. It pressurizes the fuel system to the CP3 before you start cranking the engine.

Interesting. What I posted is in the owners manual but if yours works differently then by all means use that method.

"loosen the filter then open the drain valve"

I would do just the opposite. If loosening the cap first there is a good chance fuel will flow from around the cap and canister. Fuel will start to drain out and lower the fuel level if you open the drain first.
