If you use a Performance Steerig Components (PSC) Steering Box please post your thoughts on it. Please include which box you got from them.

There are a lot of mixed thoughts on the after market boxes.

These guys from what I can see do a better and more consistant job than most of the rebuild companies on steering boxes.

Thanks,

Ron

I'm getting ready to install one today! Price was $209. 65, with shipping. They use brand new delphi units and beef up the lower bearing. I ordered it direct from PSC, got it in 4 days. (817) 270-5461. I'm not looking forward to this job, that's why at 1pm, I'm typing instead of wrenching!! Oh, I have a DSS unit on my truck that I will definately be reinstalling with this new box! I'll keep you informed.

Which one did you get? There web page lists the 841M at $240. 00 + shipping. I talked with Tom Allen the owner.

Let me know what you think when you get it on.

No probs. ,but, getting that pitman off was a PIA!! I have a pitman puller but it wasn't wide enough for this one. I disconnected the steering linkage, removed the box with arm attached, heated it with the fire wrench and gave it a couple hard whacks with a 2 pounder. Otherwise pretty straightforward. I also got the 841m box, steering is very much improved. I think the ratio feels a little different, it is definately lighter when moving slow. I have to learn how to drive it again, my arms will atrophy from lack of movement!! One small thing, there are 2 o-rings used under the plugs in the ports of the new pump, mine had silver paint on 'em, they're hard to see!! They aren't nessessary, and it's really hard to get your lines rethreaded with them in place!! I think you can chalk this up as a very positive response for PSC. See ya', Greg

Good lord!! The truck drives like a new one!! Finally no more strobing! Man I'm gonna' fall asleep now! One more problem solved, on to bigger and better things!!! Maybe I'll fix the A/C some day, or find out whats loose in the drivers door, or replace the batteries(they're OE!), about due for a clutch... . See ya'

From what I understand PSC makes two boxes for our trucks. One is real close to stock. The other changes the ratio and steers real easy (some say with one finger). Which one did you get?

I think I will order one this week.

Ron

I got the PSC 841M and I love it!! It turns so much easier than it did stock and as someone said above, I can turn it with one finger, the pinky finger!:D It does have a lower ratio, hence probably why it turns with such ease. I am just in the works for getting a Borgeson Steering shaft now. Just don't have the $$. My stock shaft kinda groans a bit when I turn the wheel really fast, but it holds up fine for the time being. I too am running the DSS stabilizer and it definately puts the icing on the cake when you install it with the PSC.

BTW, anyone running a Borgeson steering shaft? What do ya think of it and was it worth it?

Sorry Ron, I was busy for a couple of days there! I didn't ask about the ratio when I ordered the box. But the 841m doesn't dissapoint me one little bit. It's smooth, but maybe a little touchy. I find myself driving with my right hand only, steadied by the console. All I know is I don't have to be in constant motion to keep the beast on the road anymore!! I love it!! See ya, Greg

My PSC box should be here by the middle of the week!

Ron

I got around to installing the PSC box. The Dealer wanted $150, a front end shop wanted $100 to do the install. Decided to do it myself and use the saved money for more bombs! :D It took me about 3 hrs. I had to remove the DSS to get the pitman arm off then put it back, that took a bit more time. That is one of the reasons I did it myself, I did not want anyone messing with the DSS. Its not that bad of a job.

This PSC box is GREAT! It steers like new again! It should, I have installed a trac bar, steering stablizer, DSS and a steering box.
