Is there anything special to installing a DIY PSM style cold air intake? Just pull the bottom of the air box out, chop a 4" hole, connect some duct material to a flange in the box and stick it back in?

I didn't get(or at least don't remember seeing) the TDR issue with the DIY install.

The PSM system includes a baffle that isolates the intake from the engine bay, while locating/bracing the lower portion of the intake.

A DIY system should work fine, I just wonder how long it will last, how good it will look, and how much trouble it will be to round up all the parts needed. The PSM price is so low and the quality so high, that I decided to buy the kit and do it right.

I could not be happier. As said in the collector car circles, "The quality remains long after the price is forgotten. "

I bought the three required parts a few days ago for about $12 at home depot. It took about 30 minutes to put it in the truck.

WOT before the duct work would pull my filterminder in about 2/3 of the way. WOT now pulls the filterminder in about 1/4 of the way. Next step is to get a new Amsoil filter.

As far as the looks go... who cares since you can't see it anyway unless you pull the air filter or are lying on your back underneath the truck.

This is probably one of the cheapest and easiest mods that you can do with guaranteed payback.

I agree with the car collector quote above, but I really can't see anything going "wrong" with: 1) a hose clamp 2) 4" flange 3) 4" duct

I don't think the DIY version really needs a baffle since what I put in sealed pretty good, but the extra bracing could be a factor since the way the box is held on is pretty flimsy. However, the extra equipmet added on is probably 1/4 - 1/2 pound of extra weight at best (maybe less when you concider the 4" plastic hole cut out of the box).

Guys, was considering the PSM product... . becasue I dont want a filter that I have to oil or otherwise do anything to other than replace. For those of you that have them:

1. Did they recduce EGT's?

2. Any noticable drawbacks?

3. Is your truck stock or modified?

1. I can't really say much about the EGT's since I haven't driven the truck much since the install. (I normally drive my company provided truck)

2. No drawbacks at all.

3. I have the Edge Juice w/Attitude

If you just want to use a drop in paper filter this is the route to go. Do the DIY route or buy the PSM product... you can't go wrong either way.
