Have any of you installed the psmbuick cold air intake on an '03/'04 305/55? If so, I'd like your comments on ease of installation, effect on performance (if any), quality of product, etc. Also, did you go with a MOPAR drop in filter use an aftermarket such as AFE, AirRaid, NAPA, etc.

Thanks.

Excellent product. Great construction. Easy to install. Well designed in that it has a plate that isolates the intake tube opening from the engine compartment hot air. The flexible tube solves the alignment problem the guys trying to use sewer pipe are having.

I augmented the PSMBuick system with a cool blue "torque tube" and now have a total system that is very effective in delivering cold air, and keeping it cold, to the turbo.

Looks cool too... . :)

In my opinion all the folks that swear they experienced a seat of the pants improvement with their filter on a stick intake are most likely hearing the turbo wine for the first time and not a real power gain. But you know what opinions are like... everyone has one.

PSM intake

I did the install on my 03 305/555 4x4 and all went well. Easy install, good instructions, well made product. I have had the AFE drop in pro guard 7 for some time. With the PSM I'm running about 50 degrees cooler and a faster cool down. Larry

I put one on an 06, with true flow air filter, opened the exhaust with aero turbine, nice combo, lower egt's and feels good :)

Les, your filter box does not look to be stock. I thought the stock air box remains with the psm system... am I missing something? TIA

Cold Air Intake

I put one on my 05 truck. 50 deg. lower EGT just running around. Haven't towed with it yet. Easy install. In case you get one, I marked the box per the instructions and carefully cut it out with a sabre saw. Smoothed the cut with a few file strokes and sandpaper. Didn't want to buy a 4" hole saw and maybe never use it again. I also cut out a square of 1/8" hardware cloth and stuffed it in the end of the tube to keep rodents out. Tons of rain this season and no water in the filter. Kept the stock filter which is supposed to be good to over 400 HP if you have some need for that much power. I have the AFE PG7 in my old truck. Benefit questionable.

Our SOP meter isn't misleading us in this case Les, I ran a dyno run with a clean stock paper element and then a washable type. Not only did the truck rev easier but it was good for a solid 9 H. P. increase. Going to a full blown intake system made no difference over using a washable filter in the stock housing. All tests were run on a stock 305 HP eng.

Cheers,

Scotty

Bone stock filter box (other than the modification to the bottom to accomodate the cold air duct). I did apply the decal that comes with the PSMBuick system. My truck is a 04, not 04. 5, but I'm not sure that changed the external appearance too much if any.

Thats good info Scotty. I really like hard numbers as it takes the subjectivity out of it. Thanks.

Larry, did you do anything to your exhaust or did you leave it stock?

I ordered mine straight from PSM Buick. Still waiting though. I bought the after market S&B cold air box. Replaced the oiled filter with the AEM dryflow. Boy what a difference. I can't wait to install the cold air intake. I was looking a Lowes and saw some ideas for using a mesh to close off the bottom.

PSM Buick intake kit

Karl, I have the stock exhaust, and by the way we have almost indentical trucks and trailers. Larry
