PSSSST Sound When Turning Off Engine

I have just noticed that when I shut off my engine with the AC on that I hear a sort sound like PSSST from the right front of the truck. I am thinking it might be a belt making the noise since the AC compressor is engaged. When the AC is off I do not get any noise.



Anyone else hear this?

Normal sound, caused by the condensor I believe. It's not good for your AC system if it's running when you shut your rig off. I'm trying to get in that habit with temps in the 90s now.

That noise is the orifice spraying refrigerant into the condenser coil. Very normal part of the process.

Shutting off the AC without a hot air purge wont really hurt anything, though I do like to dry out the coil before shutdown to prevent mold.

yea just thought about what I said... got that confused. .

the hissing doesnt come from the cab though, its clearly at the condensor. . maybe its the pressures equalizing after the compressor shuts down?

The orifice is in the tube just as it leaves the condenser so you would hear it in the right front

ah... so I was partially right, it sprays it from the condensor instead of into the condensor... thats kinda backwards from home ac as the orifice is at the evap coil in the fan unit/furnace...

hrm. .
