Actually...

Actually, only 8 out of about 11,000 registered members... . about half the posts in the thread are yours... at this point I believe database performance issues are the biggest priority.

While I agree that its a good idea, growing the tables with another forum when we're trying to speed up the database is counter-productive at this point.

What are the "database performance issues"? Are they storage or processing?

Quite a bit of storage could be had for reasonable prices. Processing upgrades can be more costly, I know, but so far, it appears, to the average member, that the only options being considered are removal of features (image posting) or refusal of expansion.

Shouldn't the site grow with the increase in subscribers? To me, it appears that the inverse is happening.

Server

Neither storage nor processing power are the issue. Its a fundamental issue with the database software, Mysql. It has a known thread locking issue on high load systems. This server typically serves out 200 - 400 web pages per second during peak hours. Ask Steve, he say the server status page last night an hour after peak and it was still 150-200 pages/second. Until VBulletin 3. 0 comes out, which is supposed to use Postgres for the database, we're stuck trying to avert the Mysql thread bug as best as possible. VBulletin 2. 0 is tied to Mysql so we have no choice.

Have you noticed that we've added Reader's Rigs, TSBs, FAQs and have just recently (Monday) integrated the Chat user id/password with the message board id and password? It appears you may not have noticed the new features.

In Mind...

Don't worry, I think Robin will want to add this forum section. We just want to make sure performance issues are addressed first. TDR wants to provide the best Dodge diesel site there is and continues to add features and much more is planned! :)
