Installed my PSA two weeks ago and this is what I have found. On level or slight hills (4% grade or less), EGT can barely hit 1300 at WOT before dropping as boost comes on. Previously my truck would hit 1300 and climbing if you did not back off trottle. Towing a 3K trailer up a long steep hill, (8-9% grade)with O/D on, EGT will hit 1300 at 55 mph, but can be maintained at under 1300 be regulating speed with your foot. Previously, EGT would hit 1300+ at 48 mph and then you could not keep EGT under 1300 with out turning O/D off. I can leave the O/D on all the way to the top of the hill now.

Installation was simple, thanks to Big E loaning me his hole saw. Changed from Scotty to Psycotty in under an hour, including taking out tools and putting tools away.

Noise, what noise? Some complained about a "whistle. " I did not find the sound of cool air being sucked into my engine intrusive or bothersome. In fact I wish it was louder. Occurs only during acceleration. Once I am at cruising speed,
I don't hear it. Maybe my exhaust is TOO LOUD.

My conclusion: It definitely reduces EGT a significant amount. Allows you to WOT longer. Is it a worthwhile installation? Yes, definitely.

I put the PSA unit in my truck several weeks ago and set out on my usual jaunt to Indianapolis. I always set my cruise at 70mph and with Scotty air I ran 550-600F pre-turbo. With the HX40 I run 2-3psi at this cruising speed. With the PSA unit I run 600-625F consistently, yes this goes against the usual expectations. Everything else is better though. "Hot" runs at WOT have dropped 250F. I do not pull a load but even when I climb a grade empty I have seen lower temps by 100F at the top of the hill. Cooling times have been cut by half also. This allowed room for another 100ccs of delivered fuel. I'll take that any day.

Ok, ok... . I guess I'll have to get one too! Here's a dumb question: Where do you get them/order from?

I've just been hesitant... I keep looking under the hood, thinking... . "Do I want to drill a 4" freakin' hole in my new truck?!

I must say that the cool down period being cut in half is what sounds really attractive... I live atop a 3 mile steady incline and I have to cool for several minutes before I can even see 300 pre and 315 post turbo... where, honestly, I get impatient and shut 'er off. Ambient temp has been about 90-100 lately!

Already sold my ..... 1996 3500 ... On order -- 2001. 5 ETH/DEE, 3500 QC, 4X4, SLT, Black/Agate, LSD, 4:10's (will be running 19. 5's), AirDam, Camper, Keyless, Fogs, TTow Mirrors, Infinity, Steering wheel controls, Pwr Seat, rearseat storage, Tow, travel/convenience.

You can get the PSA from Diesel Dynamics, order it with the filter. You probably won't find the RE0880 filter any cheaper. You can also get it from scott1, the inventor at www.toys-4u.com. I was concerned at first about drilling that big hole, but it was easy. A couple of the guys are loaning their hole saws if you don't have one. I used Big E's, which was complete with arbor and pilot bit. TXRam has it now and it should be available after the weekend.

I tested mine at a car wash with the high pressure just shooting right in the cowl all around and no water at all got in the filter housing. Scott has it cut on the end to prevent this.

I'm noticing the noise more than others seem to be. I've got questions headed Scott's way to see if it has to do with the way my installation was done, or, is this another one of those "some like the noise, some don't" personal preference issues.
All other aspects are working as claimed, and I may decide to just live with the noise just because I like sucking the cooler, cleaner air from up top.

I have one in my truck too. On our(convoy) way down to the Timberline show,we kept calling back and forth on the CB's and kept comparing my lightly BOMBed EGT's with Evan Becks' stock ETH truck. On level road EGT's were the same between both trucks. On hills with the trucks doing the same speed, the PSA equipped truck would always be 50-60deg cooler than the stock truck. These are unloaded figures.

I have said it was a little noisier, but I can live with it. I guess the important thing is,it doesn't bother the wife.

HC,

To quiet down the Pschotty Air system, try sealing the big end of the cone to the intake hose. This can be done with black cloth tape or find a better way. You need to file down those "tabs"? at the big end about an inch back. I did mine this morning. I didn`t want any hot engine compartment air getting sucked in from the big end. Not really sure if any was to begin with. REALLY quiets it down though.

Scott1 [designer of the Pschotty Air] warned me that he had trouble with collasped filters during testing when he sealed off the "big end"

You could give this a try, but moniter carefully. With your stock truck you should be ok. I have had no trouble.
