Puff of smoke.... NOrmal??? Leak down?

I reported last week that I had a rough Idle one morning and then it cleared up. Only has happened one other time. Today leaving work I noticed I had a puff of White smoke. Small puff at start up. I called a private Diesel mechanic and said it sounded like one injector was leaking down a bit and to take it in to be verified.



I called the dealer and they are very good and have excellent Diesel mechanics. THey sell a TON of diesels. He gave me the standard questions right off the bat of is it chipped, Changed the fuel filter lately, Do you USE the engine under load, etc etc. Once he got it down that I knew little aobut Diesels he told me there was no real way of tesing the injectors to see if they would leak down. I mentioned the Flow return test, and others I read on this forum. He said that was not the case for common rails.



I am taking it in Monday after work so they can see it after it has sat over night etc. .



WOuld a little White puff of smoke Be of any alarm? How DO THEY test if you have a leaky injector. ????????? I know it is a common problem with so many posts about injectors.

I mentioned the Flow return test, and others I read on this forum. He said that was not the case for common rails.

Huh, I thought it was strickly a common rail thing.
