Hey y'all. I have an 02 QC CTD HO 6spd. I used geno's muffler elimation kit, but just wanted a little more noise. I'm curious what it'll sound like if I replace the resonator with straight pipe. THis will be retaining the stock exhaust however. I just dont have the little bit more money to get a full 4" exhaust. DRastic difference?? THanks, -Pat

First of all - Welcome.

I believe some have complained of developing a drone without the resonator. Others haven't had any problems. I personally think it'll sound great and can be done for not much money. All you need is the right diameter exhaust pipe, a 2 couplers and band clamps.

you have the same truck i do, so i can tell ya it will give you the sound of a big truck at least as close as we can get, at least a good log skidder. You will love it. I know i do, there is some drone but not too bad

I have an 02 also and have thought of that pipe replacement from genos. How hard was it to get that muffler off? I am really just leaning toward the 4" exhaust, but am curious.

I put the delete pipe on my 02 and it sounds great to me. I have a buddy who just bought a 4" from rip. I want to hear that but you cant go wrong with the delete pipe, I left my resonator on. In truck it sounds close to stock but when its driving away it has a great note to it.

It will sound awsome and it will sound even better if you do what i did, I put a 3in down pipe right to where the resisnator would go then expanded to five inch all the way to the end but the end on my truck is a 90 bend right out in front of the dually wheel! very loud very cool lots of black smoke if you like that. or you could simply spend about 40 bucks on an 18in piece of 4in crhome stack and send it straight through ur hood!

I just installed the Geno's ME kit. For the time being it is perfect. Like others said the noise in the cab is same as stock. With the passenger side window down or vent window open you can her the turbo whine and that in-line 6 music. :D

I am goin to go with Ripp's 4" but since ordering some small things from Geno's and not wanting to spend the 300 some I added the ME kit to my order for now. I can honestly say throttle response feels a touch better and maybe a couple extra ponies around 2k to 3k. That OEM muffler is deff not straight through like the aftermarkets. ;) More mods and HP and then time to give Ripp a call! Oo.

Jon,

I had my exhaust out to install a Pull-Rite trailer hitch and getting the muffler off was not an option.

The clamps used to attach the muffler to the pipe on my 2000 truck crimp the pipe into the muffler (or the muffler into the pipe - I can't remember). I even took the whole thing to two shops and they said that they would have to cut the steel to get it apart. One of those shops was a Mack truck dealer. Even they didn't have a puller that would get them apart.

I'm pretty sure that the part you have to cut is on the muffler, because I actually thought about doing it, but changed my mind. You can cut it yourself with an angle grinder or something similar. A torch will ruin the pipe. A hacksaw can't get in at the correct angle.

Good luck.

(There's nothing like the sound of a straight piped 12v. )

as long as you have earplugs on!

I had a guy tell me my truck sounds just like a dumptruck,I said that good & he said he hoped I get a ticket.

the drone gets to me after while.

Just straight-piped mine yesterday, no resonator or muffler, just a pipe. It has a slight drone but it is not annoying. I think it sounds great, and the exhaust shop (Thrifty Muffler in Evansville Indiana) did a fantastic job, made new hangers for the stock locations and everything.

Mine's had a straight pipe since about 2 weeks after I bought it, there is a little drone, but it has enuff amps in the cab to cover it when it get to be too much. A little place not too far from home, $31 and asked if I wanted a recept.
