Engine rebuild

Finally had a minute to do a little diagnostics the knock seems to get less with more rpm . Was hoping to find a broken rocker arm or bridge but there wasnt so turned it over with the cover off and the engine sounds smooth just rolling over with the starter and i can build 40 psi oil just rolling it over with the starter . Pulled the injectors and 3 of the 6 were wet with fuel

Took the injectors to be tested they popped a little on the low side but none was stuck open or pligged. So the fuel has be coming from tbe new injection pump or the cross over tubes

What does the belt tensioner do ? It spins free and it doesn’t jump or move when the engine is running. Wonder if I could have a chipped tooth in the timing gear ⚙️ train

Did you run it with the belt off?

X2 on this. In the past I have had a buddy show up twice over the years to have the AC compressor replaced due to a loud racket. Both times after removing the belt and spinning/feeling everything belt driven by hand it was a bad water pump bearing. The AC compressor being on made the pump noisy. Same truck, same noise, same pile of mail order parts lacking a water pump.

I’ll put the injectors back in and leave the belt off see what happens. It would be nice to not have to pull the engine but I have a feeling we won’t be that lucky

What can the tensioner do ? If it turns and doesn’t jump what else can it do?

It's one of those crazy things you can't really explain the how's or whys.:D But they can and do sound like a knock when they go bad. I don't know if the spring breaks and bangs on itself or what, but I have had three do it. They bounce/move more than you would think.

I am not saying yours is the problem, but it is quick, easy and don't cost anything to check.

Hey anything beats pulling the engine

Viscosity was flagged as a touch high. Also a small amount of water. The two could well be correlated, water can increase viscosity. It could also be from the oil being run at high temps for extended periods or the oil to be in the sump for extended periods. Or it could be from using a different type/viscosity oil as makeup.
I don't see where they tested for coolant in the system.
Any chance your oil sample could have been contaminated at all? It's really not a bad sample at all. I'd of expected some high wear metals given the conditions you describe.
