trailer weight is about 11,000 truck is about 7,000 so total is 18,000.

the distance i have to climb is about 400ft. , i have already done this but

Drive it on up. There is probably not much you can do other than that. I face the same problem backing my 17k trailer up a steep incline with my 6 speed. It is the one occasion that I have to slip my clutch more than I'd like. Maybe start out with a cold trans temp??? Or maybe this is a silly idea...

Can't you just place it in 4X4 Low range? I am assuming you didn't have it in low range? For some reason I have not been able to post this I keep getting a message stating I am 10 caracters short. You now have me confused?

was your truck in overdrive? if it was than hit your o/d button next time so that your rpms are alittle higher since your truck isn't geared high (3. 73) the lower the gearing the more stress on the transmission. the higher the gearing the more stress on your engine. your engine was built for a beating not your transmission.

if your speed is less than tc lockup speed (51 mph) then put it in 2nd gear this will lock your tc at 35 mph, and let it rev. with the tc locked you will not build heat your trans fluid will thank you for it so will the rest of the trans parts. if your are under 35 mph then, I suggest some aftermarket trans controller to give you tc lockup.

Fluid shear in the unlocked torque converter is the source of your high transmission temperatures. You either have to lock up the torque converter or add more cooling to bring the transmission fluid temperatures down.

Been there, done that with my previous V-10/47RE towing a 13,500 lb GVWR 5th wheel. :( I added supplemental cooling.

Do the new trucks unlock the TC at WOT, just another though. keep the fuel pedal about 3/4 to the floor and go.
