Gonna sit this one out fella's, I've got stuff to do to get ready for Lafayette on June 3rd. Buddy of mine is helping me build a all new weight bracket, as well as finally welding my mounting brackets to my frame for me.

Someone take some good video for me! ;) :D

Gap,

What time are ya'll leavin'? I may follow you down. I'm in Dickson now, legal like, on a work permit. :-laf

I don't know what time we gonna leave... I don't even know what time it starts.

From the website it's scheduled to start at 7:00. It also says it's "to be held in the pavilion" so it looks like an indoor pull. Are you and Joe going to pull or spectate? Never been to an indoor pull. From what I heard about the one last year I might pass.

The inside/outside doesn't matter to me. It's the length of the pull. Kinda like going to see a basketball game and they only play half court. :)

I wanna say it's a 200 ft track. I thought it would be kinda dull the first time I went, but it is interesting to the fact as they come out the hole a whole lot harder to stay in front of the sled. You have to get your momentum, before the sled gets you! Curious to see how Ol Smokey will act. It might not even light... We gonna blow some smoke for sure anyway!

Joe in The Silver Bullet

Gap in Ol Smokey

Cory in Bling Bling Ding a Ling (BlingNSmoke)

are all pulling!!!

That a boy Scott! How else is there to spend a Friday night? Dirt, smoke, smell of diesel, and shooting the crap! Who knows, there might be some eye candy available. :-laf

I'm glad you all are coming. I'm excited about it. Took me forever to get to sleep last night just thinking about it. If anyone needs directions, shoot me a pm and I'll point you in the right direction. I can supply a cell number to if you all want to call.

Well, it was a good pull for the diesel boys. Nobody broke and I was proud of our Mid-Tenn guys.
  1. Glenn Stoner (Ford)... ... ..... 173. 88'
  2. Dale Crowder(?) (Chevy)... 172. 85'
  3. Michael Stoner (Ford)... ..... 171. 08'
  4. Jason Warden (Ford)... ... ... 163. 62'
  5. Gap... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... 159. 92'
  6. Kenny Potts (Dodge)... ... ... . 158. 99'
  7. Joe Square Tire... ... ... ... ... ... 158. 23'
  8. Cory (Bling)... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... 157. 35'
  9. Steven (Dodge)... ... ... ... ... ... 156. 17'
  10. Johnny Newberry (Dodge)... 146. 47'
  11. Gaylon ? ('95 Dodge)... ... ..... 136. 02'
  12. ????? ('06 Dodge)... ... ... ... ... . 117. 98'
  13. Matt Cogburn ('99 Dodge)..... 87. 06'

Them Stoner boys are TOUGH! Jason Warden's Ford surprised me and I think the lone Chevy surprised everybody. At least the people that were around me. I'm pretty sure Michael Stoner and the Chevy let up thinking they were going to hit the hay rolls and I believe it was Matt Cogburn that seemed to get too much traction. His truck started bouncing. The track seemed to me to be pretty decent as far as consistency and texture, maybe a little toward the slick side, but it did have some wave action to it as far as dips and mounds. Seemed like the start was a little up hill, then headed down for about 30' then up again before the end.

If anyone disagrees with my descriptions, feel free to correct me. I am certainly no expert on pulling. ;)

Tell me more about Smokey's run.

Didshe get lit? Hook up? Spin out? Bog Bounce Barf?

Glenn is the only puller I didn't finish in front of at least once in my short-lived pulling career of 2004. My best pull was about 1/2 foot in front of Meacham BUT 1/2 foot behind Glenn. Good thing the Beast don't do dirt anymore. ;)

I've got more power and traction now--but hain't hooked yet.

Ol smokey did lit, but a little too late, about 4 revolutions of the tires, needed it on 2 though. Forgot and left the fuel plate all the way back too. She's full up now and ready for round 2. Underwood Square tire will be chauffering her tonight. Ya'll wish him luck. He's "cooler" in the seat anyway :D

Joe definitely got the prettiest smoke award! He had a good black long stream all the way to the end. The crowd went wild, the fans chanted "we love joe, We love square tires!" Joe steps from the cab with he best Square Tire hat on and graciously takes a bow! He's so freaking cute, we just all love him!!!

Cory... . he's a ding a ling! Good hook though. Thank he need some more wheel speed. Seems like he weight to get on it, don't know, didn't get to talk to him much. The crowd was still holler "we love joe" and I couldn't hear him...

Round 2 is tonight! See there ... . and be SQUARE!

Results?!?!?

Sorry had to get truck ready for next weekend... . weight bracket alterations... then had to go out with the better half & family for a family deal. ;)

Would really like to see some of y'all @ Lafayette next Saturday night, even though for most of you it'd be quite a drive. :D

Well Gap? Joe? Cory? What happened? It's been almost 24 hours... ..... we can't stand the suspense! Oo.

Did Ol' Smokey prevail? Were the Stoner boys vanquished? Will Piston Slapper Live save the day?

Join us next time for the answer to these and other questions in the next edition of Piston Slapper Live in Pullin' at the Switch! ;)

Two hitches and one pinion later, and Joe was waving his hat to the crowd... .

Ole Smokey pulled first, w/ the newer hitch setup. Turbo didn't light until 1/3 track, traction was tight, but the smoke cleared and the momentum built. When 3/4 track approached, the ground and tire speed were both up, but the hitch laid down;

Ole Smokey had the sled moving well, when the hitch broke... Joe got intimately familiar w/ the brake pedal... you oughta check out the front seat; It has a few new rips in 'er now!

Next up was you guessed it, Joe Underwood... this time he was back w/ The Silver Bullet, 285/75 ATs, and using the "proven" hitch this time.

Track was again, real tight, but the smoke came on, which never cleared by the way, and the sled was movin' real good...

At 165 feet, sled still in motion, the "proven hitch", well wasn't so proven anymore as it laid down too, and the Silver Bullet raised up as the pinion shaft and the yoke were no longer a part of the rear axle assembly; This was the same hitch that's been in use for years, was used Friday night, and was used three times just prior to this pull.

First the hitch broke, the truck jumped forward, then the pinion snapped, the truck raised up a bit, and all came to a stop; One right after the other.

Joe was once again, out of the truck and waving his hat, and the crowd was eatin' it up... He just wanted to hear his name said over and over and over... ya know it's all good for advertisement and he expects to see record crowds at the shop... all there to learn the secrets needed to build that hitch-breaking kind of power.

So there we sat until about 2:00am, the Silver Bullet all alone in the pavilion, w/ only one light on overhead. Then the boys from Charlotte showed up w/ a Mack truck and a low-boy... not just a one-ton and trailer, but a full semi. Ya know, you got to have a big truck if you're gonna pull the Silver Bullet back to the stable.

In order to get the Bullet off of the trailer, we pulled the rear axles, and drove in w/ front wheel drive. That seemed to be the only way w/o creating more carnage.

Moral of the story here is... well we're just not sure yet... more to come.
