Can anyone tell me if the rotor on a 2001. 5 2500 4X4 is free floating or do I have to pull the hub? I couldn't find anything on the search and the OEM manual doesn't give me a clue. :rolleyes:

They float as free as all the rust around the center allows them to. :D But there is no positive keepers on them once the caliper is off.

I noticed that the assembly that "knuckle?" that holds the caliper in place may be in the way of removing the rotor. I have to pull that also right? Excuse my naitivete. The pad fell right of the shoe and wore the rotor right down to the center. :{

Thanks for your

Yes - it also comes off before the rotor. Should be 2 bolts. You also have the e-brake shoes inside the rotor drum, so be gentle with them when you remove the rotor.

I just did mine, and the E-brake pads had worn a groove on the inside of the rotor. It took a whole lot of bangin' to get them off! I spoke to the dealer and they told me there is no special tool or puller for this, but if your replacing the rotor anyway you can just hammer it until it's off. You probably won't have the same problem, just letting you know in case you do.

I had to bang on the rotor also to break free of the parking brake. I made a really stupid mistake while doing this job though and hit the brakes while the caliper was pulled. pushed one of the pistons clean out of the caliper! :{ I got the piston back in but I'm afraid I'm going to have to rebuild it as the dust cover got some rust and grit in it. Yeesh!

Glad you said it - not me! :-laf (not that I've ever done anything like that before ;) ).

Good luck on the rest of the job.
