Competition Mackville, WI Truck & Tractor Pull

Competition BullyDog's Dog Days of Summer event

Looking at pulling for the first time. I guess it would be run what'cha brung. Gassers/Diesels/duals etc, no weight classes. Most likely <20 trucks.

One question is: has anyone pulled with 3. 54 gears?

My setup is: '98 12V,#6 plate, 4" exhaust, 165K, 3. 54s, 47RE and 285/75 tires. Would it be worth trying or will the gears just soak up the power? This combo works great on the sand dunes and mud but don't really pull anything.

Full of fuel and me in it was around 7200 with the soft top and roll cage, now I have a full cab again Oo.

I know it my just be the last straw on my stock trans :{ , but oh well.

Soft top and rollcage? Pics please! :)

When you pull, put it in 4LO and lock out OD. Careful not to get it hopping much - if it gets to hopping bad, then get out of it. When you get to the end, don't stay on the throttle after the sled has stopped - you're not going to move it at that point and are only increasing your risk of breakage. If you have to stop partway through due to wheelhop or whatever, DON'T hit the brakes - the sled will bring you to a stop. Good luck...
