Competition Pulling trucks = NICE 'idle'!!

Does anyone make a camshaft (I'm assuming that's what is making the really ROUGH idle on pulling trucks... . ) for the 6BT that is similar in grind to what the pulling guys use... . ?



I've heard a few I6 pulling engines run... . not to mention the many V-XX Detroits..... and they sound NASTY!!



Is it cam or fueling or both..... I want the sound and power... . I don't care about MPG... this is for a drag racing project.



After hearing those things run... . I can't get enough of it!!

If I have to buy a Detroit V-XX, that's fine too... . I gotta have the sound!!

I would say high timing makes the funky sound more than the cam.

yeah, from what I've seen the Detroits seem to be the 'plant of choice... .



I heard a 6V-53 TO DIE FOR!! It belongs to Deo Read "Hillfolk"... . that thing sounded INSANE!



The "sound" I'm referring to is the type of idle... . it sounds like a 3/4 camshaft in a mud drag car... . it goes like this (embarassing moment #18375... ) "roar, roar, roar, roar..... " Instead of the usual smooth "roooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaarrrrr"

Clear as mud?



I've heard an I6 Cummins with a crapload of timing and fuel at idle... . that thing sounded like it had 8 bad bearings in it... . until the RPM started to raise and it pulled like a MF!!



I want the 6V-53 idle!! hehe

I actually heard it from a tape that Deo Read "therabbittree" made of his 6V-53 drag engine.....

He's insane in the diesel membrane just like me... .

He has videos too... . I'm gonna see if I can borrow them to make a dub... then I can easily put 'em into the proper format for the web.



Of course... I could haul out a $15,000 Panasonic DVC-Pro digital broadcast camcorder, and a Mackie HDR 24/96 24-track digital hard-disk recorder for the audio (better than CD quality)..... CD has 44. 1kHz/16bit... . this is 96kHz sampling rate and 24bit!!

Are you sure you wouldn't need the Grass Valley switcher too?

Switcher is only good for live shoots..... it would be interesting to have a TD in one of our studios.....

We have a Grass Valley 300 - $70,000 when new.



And to think I have all this equipment to play with at WORK, not at the school I actually attend... . I'm working for Avid this summer... . that should be very interesting.

We call them fades because you use the fader bar, as opposed to a cut. See the kids at my school are not the smartest, so we have to make it easy for them.



Yes, he wants the videos, and then he will convert them to . mpg format for the rest of us. Isn't that right Matt?
