Changing out stock shocks

Has anyone installed a pullrite superglide with the super rail system themselves? Was wondering how difficult/ time consuming it was. I will need to install one when the 4. 5 gets here. I have done a few reese setups on gms and fords but not on dodge. Would rather not pay rv dealer if not necessary.

thanks, mike

I installed a Pull Rite 24K automatic slider hitch in my 03 and it wasn't bad at all. Worst part was that it took me two days to get the courage to drill the holes in my new truck. Think any weekend mechanic could do it. Appears you have done 5th wheel hitch installs before, this will be a piece of cake. One thing to watch out for is alignment of the bed to the frame and cab, mine was off a little but was still able to mount the hitch.

Klenger, thanks for the detailed info. I have been browsing this site for past few months but just joined as i have ordered my first ctd. You seem to have a great deal of knowledge . Tom, I assume that the holes that need to be drilled are just thru the bed and not the frame? Drilling a new truck is always painful especially when its yours! thanks guys

Ditto. I've installed two of them. It is easier on the 3rd Gen trucks than on the 2nd. I get nervous drilling those big holes too, but I took my time and got it right. You know measure 3X drill once:D I figgured that one of those goofy installers would be more likely to screw it up than I would. One hint, before I used that big hole saw on my truck I took a piece of 3/4" plywood that was about 5"x24" and cut a hole in the middle of it with the holesaw. When I had located where my holes were to be I enlarged the pilot holes to 1/4" put the plywood over where I was going to cut the hole, lined up the saw and the hole, then stood on the ends of the plywood and cut the hole using the hole in the plywood to guide the saw and keep it from walking. The bed is not flat so the saw will hang, walk, and jump around. Trust me make yourself a guide and you will get a much cleaner job.

Good tip Fireman. Why didn't you tell me about that BEFORE I installed mine.

I would also recommend trying to find a fine-tooth hole saw. The ones at the hardware stores are course-tooth and seem to be mostly for wood, and make it harder to cut a clean hole. You might have to go to a speciality tool shop to find one. It would be helpful if PullRite would sell them since every installation needs one.

Sorry Ken

Honest, I was going to tell you, but you got your truck and had it installed before I got around to it

ok thanks for the tips. i think i can get a blue mole holesaw with fine teeth. nothing like the feel of a holesaw rippin into some fresh sheetmetal!
