Is it okay to install a new pump cover but not hook up the wire? I tried a search but could not find what I was looking for. I am interested because if I were to take my truck in for work on non-engine related problems it would be easy to leave the cover on, and they aren't going to see it under there anyway.

I haven't hooked up the pump wire just yet, I am just curious if it is safe to have the new cover on without anything hooked to it.

Thanks,

Matt

I do not know for sure....

but I do not think there would be any problem.

I thought those covers were "plastic" of some sort and the dealership would sure notice it if they are.

Yes you can,

I have one and can see no reason not to. The dealer will never see it unless he has to go under there for some reason. And we all now they are not likely to do any extra work

Thanks Guys!

I didn't think it would hurt anything, but it never hurts to ask. The only downside I can see is it will be all to easy to hook up the wire if I suddenly needed more power:D

why install the bluechip pump cover if you have no intentions of hooking up the pump wire?

You are looking for problems if the stealer spots it

If you pierce the wire, go for it since the pump warrenty is out the window at that point

I have every intention of hooking up the pump wire, just not yet. My thinking is that if I pull her into the shop and put the cover on without hooking up the wire, I won't be as excited to go drive it and therefore less likely to forget or screw something up. Then when I am ready for more, all I have to do is untape the wire, fish it down there, plug it in, and walla more power.

You see, I'm just trying to eliminate the strong possibilty of me getting to excited and overlooking something important. You guys know that when you go to add more power you always want to drive it ASAP. ;)

Don't know what kind of relationship you have with the dealer but would have the stock cover on when I took it to the shop. There is a memo out from DC to look for tampering with the pump (I pierced the wire and got caught when my pump went away, a $1,600 lesson! ). My trucks Vin file at DC now has a note to that effect that any dealer can access. I've since installed a Blue Chip cover. It fits and works great, but why temp fate?? Leave it off until you get it back from the dealer.

Honestly,

I have the Blue Chip pump cover and it's WHITE plastic. And it only takes a slight glance to see it... as it does stick out as abnormal... everything is black, or aluminum, and here's a white cover... .

I wouldn't risk it. When and if I go to the stealer, I'll be sticking the aluminum cover back on. To expensive of a mistake, especially like the guy above stated, you'll be in the NATIONAL computer as 'one who tampers'... .

Just my . 55 worth...
