I just purchased a 180hp pump off a 96 auto that I’m going to install it on my 97 5spd, what I need to know is what CPL# should I use for the time of the pump. Should I use the CPL# of my 97 to find the correct lift settings to time the pump or use the CPL# of the 96 auto to set the timing and what would that number be.

I know there is a power difference between the two trucks, is it only because of the difference in the injectors or are there internal differences between the two pumps. Now if there is internal differences between the pumps how much power will be lost just by changing pumps, the injectors will stay the same.

Any help will be very appreciated.

Animal:

You are losing a great pump, with many better internals than the pump you are about to install.

Like better pump cam, delivery valves, governor etc. to rattle a few very quickly.

On to your question, time the pump at what the original pump was on your 97 manual.

Yes the injectors are different (between pump ratings/engine ratings), but you will lose some ponies, how many, I'm not for sure, even though you have the 215 injectors in your truck now.

Good Luck

I'm not giving up the pump, I'm installing the 96 pump (so I don't lose the use of the truck) and I'm sending the 97 pump out for refit to Piers. The 96 pump will be my spare after I get the 97 pump back.

Also I need to upgrade the transmission before I install the 97 pump to handle the new HP.
