Has anyone had a hard time breaking loose the locknut on the full power screw? My pump was installed about 3 years ago, rebuilt, and I would like to turn the fuel down just a little as it is overfueled right now and really smokes too much. The locknut just does'nt want to braek loose, and this is a work truck so I really don't want to have it down due to breaking something off the pump. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. JTMcC.

Hi,

Try using a small drift punch from the top. Will work.

Have you tried to lessen smoke by diapham and starwheel adjustment?

nascar mark, no I haven't made any other adjustments, we get called on jobs with little or no notice sometimes and the truck has to run. As far as using a punch, that screw looks awful small and fragile, I'll probably apply a little more force and maybe pull the top off the pump and make some other adjustments when I know I have a couple of days, just in case. JTMcCracken,

My locknut was pretty tight too. Now, this is only my personal opinion but... . I would not even consider the punch/hammer method personally.

I can get it quite nicely with a 13mm deep socke (1/4"drive) and small ratchet.

I need to pull one connector off the fuel solenoid, but thats all.

The ratchet just fits in between the fuel lines and the back of the socket to get it on when snugging it after adjustments.

To loosen it, all I did was take a 6mm regular socket and put that on the end of the full fuel screw, then back it out a bit, after that the locknut was loose and easy to work with.

Try that first, you can always go to the hammer method afterward if you get 'no joy'.

BUT FIRST... ... . make a mark on one of the 'flats' of the 6mm screw end as a reference mark. That way you can tell how far in/out you've gone, and were original position is. It worked great for me.

Bob.
