For some unknown reason my 92 refuses to stay timed correctly. It will stay in time for a day or 2 then reverts back. Has anyone else had this problem. I am wondering if the key is wore on the pump shaft or something similar. I have thought about making a dowel pin to force the pump housing to stay where It needs to be.

I would assume that if the key was worn on the pump shaft, the gear would be spinning on the shaft . I dont think this is what you are talking about is it?

As you mentioned making a dowel for the housing I would guess that you a re loosening the three nuts and turning the whole pump to get it back in time. If this is the case, are you also loosening the injector lines so that they are not constantly trying to force the pump back to its original location?

Phil, can you describe a little more what you feel is happening?

Is the pump itself rotating on the mounting flange, or does the pump stay where you tighten it down and the pump is out of time when using a dial indicator to check timing.

What, exactly, tells you it is out of time.

If you think the key is slipping or the shaft on the geart SHUT IT DOWN NOW, and pull the oil filler spout and check the nut for tightness.
