Is this a injector pump problem?

I had the injector pump and lift pump replaced by M&D diesel in Houston approx. 7K miles ago and also had them add a 60 hp chip. The engine ran great for 2 wks or so then started acting like you hit a governor or something about 1700 rpms, didn't die or anything just no power. If you let it go back to idle or push in the clutch quickly to get it down to 1000 rpms when you give it fuel it runs like he-- for maybe 5 miles or so then will do it again. Next day it may not do it at all , then start again in a week or so. When I talk to the shop that did the work, they say they can't find anything wrong. Could the chip be causing this, or the new pump? The shop will drive it around the block 2 or 3 times and bring it back with no problems, but will not take it out on the freeway and drive it steady for 30 minutes . Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks... ... ... ..... J. D. Poole

P. s. this is a 99 24v with 175k. pulling a trailer every day.

Have you checked for codes?

What chip? Sounds like an Edge EZ or something similar. Try disconnecting it at the data port connection and drive it for a week to see if the problem comes back. It is a three wire connection down below the fuel filter. Also try cleaning and applying a little dielectric grease to MAP sensor connections.

Thanks for the reply. I will check code today and the chip according to the invoice is Ram Power Module 1998. The cost was something like $600. 00. The fuel filter was changed the first time this happened and also checked for water. The truck runs great until this crap starts. I will unplug unit and see what happens. Thanks for the help... ... ... . J. D. Poole

Oh, by the way what the hell does Bomb mean? I don't know what you guys are talking about half the time. L. O. L.

What about the TPS ( throttle position sensor ). There is a simple procedure to reseting the TPS, I just can't remember what it is.

injector pump problem

Thanks Barry,

in that case I would surely qualify as a member of T. D. R.

I hope someone remembers how to reset the T. P. S. or is this something the dealer has to do. I have been Bombing my little 12v until now because I don't understand the computer controlled engines. Thanks everyone, for responding to this little inconvenience. As soon as I understand more of the abbreviations here I will enjoy this site even more.

To Recalibrate the APPS disconnect the battery for 30 minutes, reconnect, turn key to on position (don't start), slowly press go pedal to floor and let back up. I have read to press & release 3 times, but not sure if it is required or if just once will do it. Turn the key off and you are done.
