Well I just got my first issue of TDR, GREAT STUFF! Finally a mag that provides good info.

I've been reading a lot of the topics of late and I'm interested in pumin' up the ponie to help me with pulling my old farm tractors to shows. I'm putting about 11-12Klbs on my 25' gooseneck. My 99 is a he-- of a lot beter than the old f250 gas job. I just hope I don't have to put three trannys in this one.

Looking for advise regarding best upgrades, I'm thinking 250 hp should be good for me and what about the Dodge transmission, will it need help. I know sooner or later but $ tight and want to step into this if safe to do so.

I got about 46K miles on now and wondering about adjusting the valves as the manual suggests. Needed, required???

I'm sick of taking this thing to the dealer to change fuel filters $100+ What's the procedure to avoid air. I remember the IH farm diesels if you messed up and got air in their filters, crank, crank, ***** ***** , crank, crank, replce battery and crank!

Anyway looking for some good upgrade suggestions that are modest priced and solid low maintenance stuff. Also good resource for servicemens manual, local autozone says they don't make'em yet for the 24V! What's up with that.

Any clubs around Jackson Ms.

I realize I'm probably asking for a lot of items here but man got my income tax check coming and need the power for this years show season. Anyone ever seen a blind tractor race???!! Catch one they'll crack you up!

Thanks in advance

Welcome!
For a simple power upgrade I would recomend the EDGE EZ plug in and go. Stock transmission will sufice and EGTS will not be problem. Then get some guages and transmission mods and crank it up.

As for the fuel filter, I changed mine once followed the manuel and had trouble starting but it did start. Ran out of fuel once and had to crack two lines but still not to much trouble.

tim,

your probably gonna want more than just 250hp #ad

that is only a few more horses than stock. for something easy to do, get one of the aftermarket computers that fuel and boost both. this keeps EGT's in check. most of these boxes give you anywhere from 30-130 extra hp depending on what you choose.

the fuel filter procedure isn't that bad, after replacing the filter, loosen the supply line banjo fitting on the injector pump, turn the key to on, and let the lift pump move the fuel... it will run for 20sec or so, and pump a few quarts of diesel on the floor, but the truck will start right up after tightening the fitting back up and then going thru the normal start up procedure.

get yourself a shop manual, it explains all of this stuff in greater detail!

Tim,

If you decide to go with a fueling and boost box (50-120 HP) make sure you have gauges! They can heat up very quickly!

The EZ or the VA are the easiest to install without any heat problems. The EZ has a boost module already in it, the VA doesn't. You should have a boost module for maximum performance. In your case the EZ would probably be the best choice unless you wanted to put in injectors.

If you want to put in injectors I would recommend either Bully Dog or Diesel Dynamics stage I's (55+ HP)or II's (80+ HP) and a Pratical Solutions boost module. Right now Diesel Dynamic is offering 20% off to TDR members Diesel Dynamics and Bully Dogs Injectors and Pratical Solutions boost module are on sale at Carl's Group Purchases; Diesel Discount Accessories

I personally would not consider the 275's, I seen as low as 15-20 HP increase with them.
