I purchased a 2006 Nissan Frontier Ext. cab 4 banger 5spd. last night and as a standard feature it comes with TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System).

Why does Dodge not offer something like this, even as an option? And before anyone bashes me for buying an import it's a global economy.

Do you still have the Dodge?..... So long as you still have it who cares what you buy. :D Kidding. Its like toyota, they are made in united states, but oh my gosh its an import!!!!!!! Good luck with it. My ford also has the tire mondering system on it. It save me from changing a tire on the side of the road... ... Rick

Well first of all, your Dodge is likely an imported vehicle too. ;)

Now to your question. The fed's are mandating the TPMS in all new vehicles. Starts in the next year or so. Nothing that I know of prevents Dodge from installing it on our trucks, other than cost. Careful what you ask for though. I have seen vehicles equiped with TPMS systems and the driver has still suffered blow outs and runflats. My point is that in theory, the TPMS is supposed to detect the low tire, and activate a warning light giving you as the driver time to stop and check for the low tire. We had a customer with a brand new Tahoe who had a blow out as a result of driving on the tire while being seriously low on air. The tire had a nail in it and allowed a slow leak. Well the TPMS did it's thing, turned on the warning light and 30 seconds later the tire blew out from all the heat and damage of being driven at speed while very, very low on air. This is the EXACT thing TPMS systems were supposed prevent from ever happening. (steps off soap box now)
