I was wondering just what the purpose is of monitoring the fuel pressure. Is this only a concerned when you have a modified engine? Is there any point in monitoring the fuel pressure with a stock engine?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Thanks in advance,

Bryan

most of what i read here about fuel pressure gauges has to deal with the lift pump starting to fail or if the filter or pre-screen is clogging up. it gives you a little warning so that you hopefully wont get stranded.

this may not be an issue at 10,000 miles but from 50k on up it could be of assistance.

Jim,

I have not seen any reports of lift pumps failing or pre-screen clogging up on the 3rd gens. Am I missing something here?

Thanks Ken

I got it on mine, since I didn't need the trans temp with a 6pd, and figured it would let me know if I got a bad load of fuel or the filter needed changing before the miles said to.

kbarlow, between reading TDR and DTR I've seen a couple posts about lift pumps dying and requiring replacement. But certainly not to the magnitude of the 2nd Gens, at least not yet.

I agree with Vaughn... there have been a couple 3rd gen lift pump failures. But I think they were all on "non-stock" engines.

Have you seen the size of the stock lift pump. Can you say small?

Even stock, the pressures can be around 6-7 psi. at idle. Again, cheap insurance for something that can be expensive down the road.
