just got in my truck... pushed in the clutch... . turned the key... . at first it sounded like the battery was dead... . shut the radio off... . tried again... . this time the starter clicks over very rapid but the engine does not show any signs of turning over... . any suggestions??

solenoid contacts?? low batt?? i dont have anyone to help me currently as far as mayb taping on the starter, etc but will in a few hrs

thanks for any help

I'd say dead/low battery/s or dirty battery terminals. Try jumping it, if that doesn't work, you should clean the terminals. Once it is running, get it over to a shop that can check out your charging and starting system. Schuck's does this for free if you don't have a shop you like to work with.

yup... 1st gens only got one... . if i wasnt getting rid of it i probably would do the the 2 adapter thing after this... . anyone wanna buy this truck?

Yep first gen only had one battery at it is a monster that is kinda hard to find. Every time I have had one die there is no warning just one day just click no slow start no warning at all. seems to die every 3 years.

Interesting, My dad had a first gen CTD when I was younger, I guess i never checked to see that it had two batteries or not.

Thanks for clearing that up.
