a bad oil leak in a 01

My 01 did it too. I came close to a rear main sea luntil I took the dust cover off the trans and there was no oil in it. i traced oil trail from rear lower corner of side cover to problem. The scariest part was this was my first important repair to my first diesel. the fear of hearing that keyway fall into the front cover if I got it wrong was frightening.When it was all done and bled and it ran I was happy man!!I did the repair at my friends house and he said that if the engine didn't start he was going to quietly leave his own house.!
