hey guys i have a question i hope you can answer. i put a carter pusher on my 01 & i have 22 psi at idle at the inlet of the vp 44. i have heard that this type of pressure will damage the vp44. i am also running the stock lift pump. with the comp on 5/5 & mega mental injectors i can pull the pressure down to about 7 or 8 psi at wot is this much drop normal? thanks for any replys kurt.

herman did you have the pusher in before the vp44 went bad or did you put the pusher in after the vp replacement?did you go with a reman or new & how much was the it if ya dont mind me askin? thanks kurt.

propuller... pressure you have should be fine. Been running this type of pressure for over a year and half, 40,000 miles plus no problems.

propuller--I installed the carter lift pump shortly after I had the Banks system installed. Banks installed at 71k--pusher pump at 77k--vp44 problems at 90k--replaced vp44 at 100500 mi (last week) The total cost for a new vp44 with the latest upgrades(so they tell me) was $1554. 00. I have not hooked up the BANKS OTTOMIND yet--waiting to give the new pump a few weeks of break-in time.

Humm... I ordered a 7psi ...pusher

But I was under the impression that the pusher delivered the pressure to the factory lift pump and it wouldn't be straining as much to deliver its rated output of 15psi. I DIDN'T THINK THE PRESSURE WAS ADDITIVE 7+15 = 22?

Am I missing something here? I know there is controversy on the pusher, even the latest TDR mag has a thumbs down opinion... But I guess I was thinking it was the altering the fuel system/warranty thing... but now I find the "it will damage the VP44" comments or the i"t helps cool/lubricate the VP44 with bypass fuel" comments...

... I'm so confused

I guess I'll leave the pusher in the box, wait for my back ordered DiPricol gauges to show up, install them find out where I am at first. Then sort threw the opinions and make a decision and live with it. However as much as I like my truck I am annoyed with Dodge. why don't they evaluate this issue make a statement of what all the Dealer's will or will not do and why. Different people getting a different story from dealers just isn't good customer relations . Buy the way I called the dealer I bought my truck from in Golden Colorado and asked to come in and check my fuel pressure. The service rep told me it would cost me $200 If it tested good. His attitude was a little in your face on the phone. I'll be buying my own test gauge in addition to my in cab DiPricol. I won't be buying a $2 part from that dealership in the future.

fuel pressure

Jim -you can get a fuel injection pump test kit bt ATD part # 5567 (for about $ 35-$40 if I remember correctly) if you want to test the fuel pressure while waiting for your guages. This at least will give you a bse line to work from. The pressure will vary from idle to WOT. I do not know what stock specs are for a stock pump but I remember reading on TDR that 8 psi at WOT is a target pressure. Anything much less is a red flag. As far as DC coming clean about lift pump problems--I think it would be on the same line as their thermostat problems. --No problem until it fails !!! My thermostat was going bad & DC replaced it with the newest upgrade due to problems w/the stock part & the dealer said replacing the thermostat was a maintenance issue much like an oil change & therefore not covered under warranty! So somehow maybe the same is holding true with other parts--just an opinion!!

fuel pressure

Jim--By the way--it is very easy to test your fuel pressure. The brass fitting on top of the fuel filter can be removed to allow access to install a test guage--permanent or temp.
