tmacc, hammer and myself installed a pusher pump kit today to feed my weak lift pump. we also installed rays bj bolts and drilled the schraders. BANG!! 15+psi at idle (10psi before). 10 psi at WOT with the powermax and ez in the on position. ( 0 psi before). this seems like the way to go. sure beats all the hassle involved in moving a pump from it's stock location to back by the tank. hardest part of the install was getting all that darn tape off the pump wire so that we could splice to it with a scotch lock. tmacc did a superoir job drilling the schraders and installing the bj bolts. we also discovered a perfect place to mount a fp sending unit(tmacc has pics)

thanks again guys!!!

if your kit doesn't contain wiring instructions,,save these.

I'm pretty sure my lift pump is on its way out. I plan on checking the fuel pressure with in the next few days. Did you have any problems with your truck stumbling? If so did the new pusher pump help? My truck has been stumbling pretty bad lately. It really sounds like the pusher kit is the way to go. Does any one know how much a new lift pump costs from cummins? Did you notice any difference in HP with the new pump and banjo bolts?

Thanks for the help

Justin

Justin, if you have less than 100,000 miles, the lift pump is a warranty replacement item. But good luck convincing the clowns at the 5 screw stealership that these pumps can and do go bad...

I gave up and bought one at Cummins, the last one I bought ran me $147 after tax... .

The benefits of having sufficient fuel pressure do not include added horsepower, but rather, a restoration of a minimal power loss, and sufficient fuel to prevent damage to the EXPENSIVE VP44 injection pump.

jlatham, i would get a little hesitation when i tromped the go pedal with the pmx in the higher levels(6-9) @ 0 psi on the gauge. now that it has plenty of fuel to supply what the pmx3 is asking for it feels good. i will say that the truck feels a bit more responsive now with the upgrade. we also drilled out the bj fittings between the fuel filter and lift pump. is your stumble only when the pmx is on??? as far as increased hp due to this upgrade i will say that now i am getting real close to what the advertised pmx3 hp is supposed to be.

Iceman,

The truck only stumbles when my PM is on. It doesn't matter what level it is on. It seems to happen more frequently around 60-80MPH. It usualy only stumbled once a month but here lately its been happening 3-4 times per week. At 60-80MPH it acts as if the key was turned off, then turned on again. I have been told about a wire that can be cut which eliminates any defueling. I think it was white with an orange stripe, located at the wiring harness on the firewall. Has any one else heard about this?

Thanks,

Justin

Bummed out

Sorry I did a no show on y'all. I am still trying to get my shop finished up. This 50-60 degree weather in late november is unreal, especially in Garrett county. Still ,would have rather been with you guys tho. Sounded like things went o. k. with the install. Will try harder to make it to the next gathering. Doug

Too bad I went hunting!

**ICEMAN**, looks like I missed something while I was off hunting. How about E-mailing me with the particulars on the pusher pump. I already have Ray's banjo bolts (actually have had them ever since he originally posted) but haven't installed them yet. Would like to know cost, etc. and maybe if the group is going to get together again to try it one more time.

**ICEMAN**,,I appreciate the invite over there on Sunday,,I had a good time and may have even learned something,,Let me know how the dry pavement test went when you get a chance,,We'll get together soon to do some more,,Like that watching TMACC hard at work, kinda felt like a state worker leaning on the shovel,,Now you got to be honest with these over-valved guys here, you liked driving my truck better than yours,,You know the one,the properly valved one(I seen the smile, you can't deny it),,I'll bring you some knee pads for the next time you use the brakes so you do not hurt your knees,,Got the copies made for you and will send them off for your other truck,,See Ya soon..... P. S. =I am still trying to catch my son with that sackin-frackin-rackin deer bologna,he runs faster than me and I only got one piece since I got home and he's laughing his A** off,,It was good the one I got ,Thanks
