Pusher Pump Flow w/ FASS

If a backup pusher pump (i. e. Holley Black) is installed inline with a FASS, and wired up to a pressure switch to serve as an augment and backup in the event of a pressure drop, can they push or pull through each other okay? Or do you have to set them up in parallel?
