I installed a Carter LP (7PSI) pusher pump with a filter . It only worked for 28 miles before throwing in the towel. Left the shop with the fuel pressure gauge showing 17 psi returned with 5 psi. It was cold when I took it for the test drive -10 F. Add the wind chill to that and I was thinking did the fuel gel in the filter and the pump started to pull on slush. Also what happens when the lift pump does not want alot of fuel (ie idle) does the pusher have a internal check valve that when 7 psi is reached it recirculates or will the pump start to stall out? Any thoughts are welcomed.

I have two of them myself - but never any reason to take either of them apart - but I understand they use some sort of ball/spring bypass valve arrangement... Sure sounds like you ran head-on into some sort of obstruction problem, jelled fuel or otherwise...

Unless you coincidentally ran into a tank of bad fuel, it's probably just the cold, and all will probably get back to normal when things thaw out or you add some anti-jell to your fuel...
