I put the #6 plate in the other day. I didn't think it felt

much faster for being 80 more horse. Then I drove it

to work on the bypass and god its good. As soon as it

locks up in overdrive it accelerates nice. I never had

much if any power for passing before but now it feels

like a sports car. I can't wait to drive on the highway

now. Only problem is all those damn cars wont get

out of the way. Makes it hard to test drive. I've still got

to put the AFC spring kit in and the 3K kit too. I'm

trying to do it in steps so I can see the changes each

modification makes. Very addicting. All I need to do is

save up 3 grand for a trans and then I can make some

real power. Gotta love diesels.

What are the pros and cons of sliding the plate forward?

Does it make much more power number wise?I'm keeping

in mind the limit of the stock trans. I'm runin around 10 1/2

in the heat but having problems finding an area I can test

drive. I allways end up running into the back of traffic.

All that extra power does feel good, doesn't it.

If it were me, I'd leave it in the stock position, add the 3k GSK and enjoy. Since you're still running the stock turbo (as I read your sig) I'd be a little concervative due to EGT concerns.

I have done all the above and not in any order, if I were to do it again I would do the "in steps " thing but I would wait till last to move the plate forward. You will see a diff in moveing the plate, mine is about 3/16-1/8 forward from stock and have about that much I can go yet, but the trannie comes to mind:rolleyes:

The govener spring kit will make more diff than sliding the plate in my opinion.

I slid my stock plate all the way forward (about 1/4") towed my camper the following weekend and had all kinds of power. The only problem was I couldnt use it. I would cruise along on the flat about 900-1000* fine but on the hills I would hit 1350 and higher in a heartbeat. I moved it back halfway (1/8" ahead of stock) still a noticeable increase in power but about 1150 is tops now. This is just temporary until I can get a TST plate and a better air system. Its nice slid full forward, cool smoke and tons of snot, but if you cant use it all its no good.
