Price of non-ethanol was 3.49. Im an idiot and didnt make sure it was diesel or not, just assumed gas wouldnt be that expensive. Drove 6.5 miles down the road before i could feel the truck slightly jerking. Stopped the truck. Considering bringing to a mechanic but am savvy enough to drop the tank myself, and refill with diesel if it wasnt too bad on the engine to run the mix in the system dry. There was 1/4 tank of diesel before filling it up. How ****ed am I and would you think dropping it myself, refilling with diesel, and giving it a shot would be alright? If someone could explain to me what happens to the engine if i drain the tank, fill with diesel and run the rest of the mixed fuel out of the system in a sort of educated since i would be much obliged.

From past stories, some folks have been fine with a drain and flush with new and down the road they went.

It happens, NJ you don't always pump your own "gas", Diesel I usually only get at Truck Island. But the one place I asked for fill it regular, they said NO..... then I realized what I said.

Might be OK.

Didn't we have a nice thread not to long ago? So we wouldn't need to write it all over again, but I can't find it.

I found a thread that seems pretty good you might be referencing.

The difference is I drove 6.5 miles down the road and this guy didnt turn the key once. So my concern would be if the injection system was damaged. My biggest question then is how do I tell besides dropping the tank, cleaning, refilling, and driving again if there is other issues still?

Edit: Found this in that thread and its about the spittin image of what I have goin on. Will follow this and keep this thread updated. Guess it wouldnt hurt to have more than one thread of resources and results.

I dread anytime I hear this. I hope that you get it rectified.

I try not to use those dual diesel/gas pumps. I could see my mind wandering off and filling my truck up with gasoline. I use the diesel only pumps, especially if they have the high flow nozzles. It's so much quicker.

Almost happened years ago with my 2002. Only reason I noticed was after I pushed the "87" button. All it then would've taken would be for me to squeeze the handle to have a bad day.

Then I remember the time when I was went to a full service station and the station attendant told me my truck took gasoline. I drove off quickly.

I see you found my thread... You'll be fine.

My guy drove it at least that far and left it in the lot, then I drove it (thankfully) and experienced the same symptoms about a 1/4 mile out of the lot, turned it around and towed it home. Ours was a 2012 HO 6.7... still running strong as we speak.

Do your thing. Damage is done (if there is any). If you bring it to the dealer instant doom and gloom will be cast down upon you and a entire new fuel system is on the receipt.

Seriously though, I’d do what you mentioned then run it and monitor. If issues arise report back.

Good luck!

Update: hopefully everyone can see this who posted above.

Dropped the tank, siphoned it out with an electric pump from Tractor Supply. Once i got to the bottom i used rags to soak the little bit the siphon couldnt get to. I then put a gallon of diesel into it and shook it around the tank to dilute any remaining gas. Sucked that out as before and put the tank back up. Added another gallon and a half of diesel to the tank.
Then went to the engine bay and cracked the fuel/water separator drain line (yellow top). I then hot wired the fuel lift pump to run diesel thru the lines. To do that i ran a wire from the positive terminal of the battery to the fuel lift pump fuse location using a paperclip. Ran that for a few minutes.
Once i did that I changed the fuel filter. Again, ran the fuel lift pump to prime the system.
Added the remaining diesel out of the 5 gallons i was using. I then turned the key to the On position about 5 times just to be sure the pump would prime the system from that route, turned the key to crank it and wouldnt you know, not a damn sputter. It cranked right up. I let it run a while just to be sure. Sure was a relief to hear that baby run again after i basically kicked it in the gut.
Finally I drove it to the gas station and filled it up with DIESEL. I added the Power Service Diesel Kleen (12oz) to the tank and drove it home (35 min drive from the in laws i worked on it at). Worked like a charm.

I did not take off the FCA and check for metal shavings. If I did and found metal shavings im not sure what that implies other then another ah **** moment.

I now have about 35 gallons of diesel/non-ethanol mix i dont know what im going to do with. Originally i had 1/4 tank of diesel before filling the remainder of the tank with gas. If its diluted enough I am wondering if I can use the mix in any way without hardly any issues.

Thanks everyone for their input on past posts and this one here. Hopefully this can help others if they dont find the other posts.
Again I put 3/4 tank with non ethanol gas and ran it for 6.5 miles. Did the above and it ran fine for a 21 mile drive.

I wouldn’t be afraid to put the gas/diesel mix in a tractor, mower, etc, or even in an older car or truck.

More the other way around here. With a mix of ¾ Gasoline and ¼ of Diesel I'd more like. I'd slowly use it up in a fuel injected car, always like in a 10-20% mix with regular fuel. All at once would be to heavy, but like 5% diesel mixed with gas works just fine.
Don't use the mix in a carburetor engine, doesn't work.

I'm very happy to hear you got your truck in great running order. :)

Folks on here gave you excellent advice.

I did the same thing years ago on my 01.
Was running on fumes and pulled into a filling station and grabbed the yellow handle and started pumping. Had about 4 gallons in it. About the time I noticed I was pumping gas the truck started to stumble. I quickly turned off the truck.
Called the local auto parts and they delivered a new fuel filter. finished filling up with diesel and drove 300 miles home. The ol 5.9 never missed a beat.
