When I put the truck into drive nothing happens! Move the lever to reverse and still nothing happens! Rev the engine and suddenly it slams into gear. Usually happens when the transmission is still cold. After warmed up it works correctly.

Been told that its caused by the torque converter drawback check valve. Looked it up in the service manual and it says its located near the radiator. Two men at my friendly Dealer parts department spend over a half hour searching but could not find the part listed.

Not sure that this is the problem item but if it is then would someone please tell me where the !#$$#% its located!#@$%!

Only got 190k miles... ... ... . and its one thing after another!

As a side note, some people have actually removed this valve as it can hinder flow and cause the trans to run hot. You just need to remember to let the engine idle in neutral for a while before you put it in gear. I personally let it idle in neutral for at least 15 seconds any way as it gives the oil time to circulate.

DavidC is correct I had mine removed as well at the advice of my transmission guy when I had my trans rebuilt. He said hes seen them fail and block the flow in the lines. Their only use is to prevent the heat exchanger from draining down when the engine is shut off. I simply give my truck a few seconds after start up before putting my trans in gear. A good rule of thumb Ive used is to wait 2 or 3 seconds after the oil pressure gauge stops moving after start up, by then shes good to go.
How long do you have to wait before the trans will start to move? If it doesnt move until the fluid is warm, Id say you have other problems. If the checks were blocking your flow, you would be having issues all the time not just at start up. If they are simply not holding and allowing the heat exhanger to drain, the torque converter only takes a few seconds after start up to prime everything.
