Looking to have a 34' sailboat towed from SLC to Bear Lake, UT

My rv has lost its shine . The front and rear caps are waxable but what can i do for the sides? Its dull , I wash it and zip wax it but I need someting to make it like factory new. I don't have the gel coat sides. Any sugestions would be appreciated. Jim

Jim;
we all need more info on your outfit. The caps, are they fiber glass, and the sides glass also? or Aluminum? do you have graphics on the sides? etc. If its all fiber glass go to a boat dealer for good fiber glass products. Some automotive products won't work satisfactorily, because of the petroleum distillates they contain.

I just finished a complete buffing with 3M heavy duty rubbing compound after using Meguiars wax for fiberglass. I was not impressed with the Meguiars. I went back to Liquid Glass which really holds up well especially in Arizona. The 5ver looks close to being new again but buffing a 32 foot fifth wheel took about a month on weekends and wore me out. I never had the fading or chalky residue while using Liquid Glass and will not get talked into carnuba wax again. 16 ozs. costs from 18 to 23 dollars at auto zone, pep boys etc. I found it at autogeek.com for 115 dollars a gallon. I should have enough to last me a lifetime now.

I have 2 suggestions. The first is there is a worldwide professional detailers web site(free) called--- autopia.org--. They have some excellent information there for all types of products and types of surfaces. The second suggestion--on my boat I used a product called Leverage. It is for fiberglass and it is more of a polish than a cleaner. You spray it on and wipe it off. It was easy on and easy off and lasted for a couple of months. I can get more info about it if you want me to. It is sold on the net at Offshoreonly.com. They are an advertiser on that site.

I honestly don't think you can shine the filon fiberglass sides on an older fiver. I owned a '95 Travel Supreme that had filon sides. As it aged it became dull. I tried waxing it to no avail. If it's not gelcoat you can probably make it look better but I don't think shiny is possible.

That's why gelcoat has become popular.

One word - ICE. That new car wax ICE. It does an excellent job at brightening up everything it's put to. Clean with a bar, then use the ICE. There are several RV parks in my area, plus just a ton of TT's, etc - everyone is using it to get rid of the dulling that the UV rays causes, and much to everyones suprise, it's doing a great job. I have an old dull trailer that I am planning to do in the next couple weeks. By the way, they are using the clear liquid not the paste wax.

I use this stuff 2x/year on the RV: It even removes that nasty sticky glue and can be sprayed on decals, plastic, windows, etc (stuff you accidently overspray)...

Wax As-U-Dry®

Its available at Walmart for approx $4/bottle and one bottle lasts me the whole year. I even use it on the boat, truck, minivan and Durango. It is awesome...

Just spray it on after washing the rig and the water will bead and fall off of the surface. Then just wipe it off, no need to buff.

Surface looks glossy and feels smooth afterwards. It actually makes drying the rig easier because the water just falls off.

Try it, you wont be disappointed...

This stuff worked well for me: RV Gel-Gloss I bought a gallon at Camping World. Its easy to use, just wipe it on, rub it around a little and wipe off. It cleans and waxes in one step as I'm sure many others do but this is the one I tried first and it worked. I had tried all kinds of things to get rid of the dinge and black streaks but nothing worked including products made for such. My trailer was pretty filthy and neglected on the outside when I bought it used but this gel-gloss product did the trick and made it look new again.

I have a 29' Jayco Eagle TT with fiberglass all the way around. I wash it with Meguire's car wash soap and then hand wax it with Nu-Finish. It takes just about one 16 oz bottle to do the job. I wash the trailer before and after every trip and wax it once in the spring and once in the fall. I start about 8 AM and by 4PM I am finished and the trailer looks fabulous. It's cool to watch it bead up in the rain.
