I have replaced my steering linkage, ball joints, power steering pump and gear box. Whwn I apply the brakes, I loose power steering.

Has anyone had this problem?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but yes, the steering and brakes both draw their power assist from the hydroboost system that is powered by the power steering pump. Have you checked your hydraulic accumulator in the hydroboost system? They can go bad - the hydraulic accumulator acts like the vacuum reservoir in a vacuum assist system to provide additional assist for peak load situations and gives enough assist for 1 or 2 stops with the engine not running.

Thanks Rusty;
I'm assuming the accumulator is part of the pump and is included when the pump and fluid tank are replaced. I had him replace hoses, pump and tank, same problem. I then had the mechanic re-install the old gear box. He says that the problem is now fixed. Bad Borgeson box? I haven't driven the truck yet so don't know.

I drove the truck home and it seem OK, a little tight but OK. I'll check the accumulator this weekend.
Thanks for all of your suggestions.

All you have to do to check the accumulator is to start up the truck and let it idle for a minute in your driveway. Now, shut off the engine - don't move the steering wheel. After the engine is shut down for 5-10 seconds, press the brake pedal. You should still have boost assist from the hydroboost accumulator for 1-2 applications of the brake pedal if the accumulator hasn't lost its charge. If you don't have any boost on the first brake pedal application after the engine is shut down, the accumulator is bad.
