I just looked at the front of my 01 admiring my TDR badge I just installed and saw oil on the barn floor. Bummer. It's coming from the fill cap on the power steering pump. I opened it, almost, and fluid started to run... so I closed it.

Started engine and moved the steering, checked the level, yea, it's low now. Anybody have this happen??? Last time it was driven was Friday, 4 days ago.

Blu,

Check your brake pedal before you try to drive the truck!

Mine did a similar thing this winter when it sat for a day or two. I believe it to be the brake master cylinder accumulator (the blue cylinder next to the brake master cylinder. ) It's function is to provide pressure to the system if the engine/power steering pump dies. That allows two or three good brake applications before the system loses assist. I think it is filled with pressurized nitrogen and it has burst filling the system with air (nitrogen). It seems that there have been a number of reports of this.

Once you fill it and purge the air from the system it will work fine - except if the engine dies. Rev the engine and move the steering to work the air out of the system. Check it by driving *slowly* in a big open parking lot. Shut off the engine add try the brakes. If the pedal is hard immediately and the truck is hard to stop, I think you have found the culprit. I'm guilty of not having mine repaired at the dealer yet. Don't follow my example - get it fixed!

Hope this helps.

You called it. That's exactly what happened. I took it to the dummy's at 9 AM and they waited until 4 PM to check it out. The next day they completed the task, at about 3 in the afternoon. They must think it's OK to overbook their appointments. I probably would have let it go, as you have, if I hadn't posted here. Thanks.

Oo. Oo.

This happened to me.

power steering fluid all over the drive way. No brakes or steering. Went to the dealer they changed the pump then the hi press line. It seems OK now but I got to test the master cyl emergency stop and see if it works. The tech at the dealer I used did not know his job. LOL with your problem. I hope the hell this never happens on the freeway!!!
