I would like to install a Pyro, boost and Trans Temp guages in my truck. I have read pre and post arguments and will go pre turbo. My main question is how do I hook into the transmsion (Auto) and where is the best place to get power to the guages from. I bought a set of western guages and an a pillar mount.

Pre-turbo is a good choice. The best way for good transmission readings is to tap into the output line to the trans cooler. Many folks buy a output line for '94-'95 autos which have a port, about $100. Another option is a kit from Blue Chip Diesel (I think?) for around $30 where you cut the line and install a tee. Either way be prepared to lose some ATF.

I don't want to go out on a limb with wire colors without a '98 manual but there are several places to tap into switched 12v+ around the fuse box. If it's a dimmer wire for the gauge lighting you're looking for I'm pretty sure it's the tan wiring you will find in many places under the dash.

Come over to my place, I'll show you my set up. For the transmission, drop the pan and replace it with a deep pan and while your at you can change the fluid and filter.

You don't need to splice anything. I used an Add-a-Circuit(I think that was the name) made by Littlfuse. It is rated at 10 amps. I used the ones for the mini fuses. Cost me less than $10 for both.

You pull out the fuse, install the Add-a-Circuit, put the fuse that you pulled out into the spot that doesn't have the wire sticking from the side, and then insert one of the fuses that came in the package in the other slot. I used 2, one for the backlighting and the other one for the transmission temp power. Don't recall off hand whether it came with a butt connector or not.

I'd put it in the pan. It seems like it could impeed the flow of ATF if it's in the line.

As far as the pyro I felt more comfortable putting it post Turbo. I was afraid it might chafe off and end up in the turbo.

As far as putting the pyro post turbo as has been stated in NUMEROUS posts, you will get a lower EGT reading. Not to mention your down pipe is really not in to much danger, your manifold on the other hand can be. Just my $. 02
