For a month or two maybe I have had the guages for my new truck sitting around. I just wasn't ready to tap the exhaust manifold myself. What a waste of time. It was easy!!!!

It took about two hours from start to finish. Boost was hooked up with a PDR boost fitting. It went in just like on the 2001. Overall it went very well. I do have to thank -- email address removed -- for all of the emotional and technical support. I must have driven him crazy. Thanks Fred!!!

Install your guages guys, the truck cools down real fast. Max boost is 22-23. Max EGT's were 1150 flat footed at 90 mph uphill in fifth gear. I couldn't be happier. Looks like it is time for FUEL:D

So exactly where did you decide to drill the EGT sensor hole in the manifold? No shavings in the turbo, I hope?

I centered it on the left side of the Exhaust manifold. Maybe the rear/passenger side is a better discription. I used grease to grab the shavings and seemed to get alot. Then I just fired her up. Drove some tonight and no problems.

when i drilled for the egt probe on my charger i coated the bits in a silicone liquid nails that seemed to pick up pretty much all of the shavings... i also started w/a 1/16" drill bit and stepped up to the 1/4" hole that i need 1/64" at a time using the liquid nails on each step. this kept the shavings to a minimum. when i was finished i used a very small magnet on the end of a teloscopic rod and fished around in the header for shavings. all i got out on the magnet was enough to make my thumb dirty when i wiped it off... this method worked great for me and if i ever install another egt or o2 sensor i will probably do it the same way...

Thanks, guys.

That's similar to what I did on the '01, but I wanted the probe in the neck before the turbo so I would get maximum heat (all cylinders).

Maybe that's not that important.

In the '01, it was easy to use suction and coating to get the big stuff, and a magnet to fish around on the horizontal bottom of the manifold.

With the '03, if I center it, I'm over the turbo.

Guess I'll just offset and be done with it.

Good point, Greg-

Want I meant to say was centered in one of the humps of the downpipe (there are two humps as you know), so three cylinders of heat are measured... ... but maybe just being up top drilling down near one cylinder is better?

Drilling location and boost question

According to my instructions from Genos, you drill 2" from the turbo flange and 5/8" off the center of the manifold towards the rear of the motor. I might be installing mine this weekend. Depends on if the fishies are biting or not...

Did you need special fitting like the PDR Boost Fitting to install the boost gauge?

David,

I used the PDR boost fitting. Just pulled one of the bolts that was not doing anything(holding something down).

ntenna,

i dont see why you couldn't install a pyro on both humps. If you ran a switch in between, you could check both sides.

Boost

Guys,

am I correct in assuming that our '03's don't have the round plug on the left side of the motor like the '01's (where you can install the boost line/fitting)? I just received my gauges and just thought install of the boost would be same as on my '01... thanks in advance!

Anybody have some boost/pyro install pics? A picture is worth 1000 words ;)

What gauge and gauge mounts are you guys using?

Radical idea, Greg!

That would be some serious monitoring!:D
