I broke a lead at the gauge (yellow wire) and hooked it back up, but pyro doesn't work.

There's a copper wire running inside a tin foil wrap in the pyro cable.

Does this copper wire need to be connected to either the yellow or the red wires?

And do these guages go south easy if shorted or something?

Thanks

Your pyro gauge is actually milli-volt meter that can be destroyed by high voltage. 12 volts is way high. The foil and wire you see is shielding to keep errant voltage from reading on the gauge, it can be grounded but isn't necessary.
