New Or Different Trans Choice

The dangers of winter fronts?

Got a dead isspro pyro, It was intermittent for a few days then died all together. I guess the question is, Is it the little amplifier box or the thermo couple? anyone else had this?

I have had the little box get wet and quit working for a while but it always dried out and began working again.

I had the same problem a few years ago with the Isspro pyro. Mine did not get wet, but the gauge started "hanging" at a reading.

The first time I blamed a loose ground because it appeared to be fine after regrounding.

The second time around I couldn't get it to work at all. It would still light up, but the gauge just hung there at around 700 degrees. It was finished...

I decided to go with DiPricol Optix after.

I'd double check all connections/grounds and thermocouple. Thermocouples do not go bad that often (I've only seen one EGT gauge problem solved by putting in a new probe).

Good luck...

If you have the amplifier box, it most likely the amplifier. I just lost mine 2 months ago. I bought the new EV2 egt and the first one out of the box doesn't work. I am awaiting the new one from Geno's. And as a side note, I worked with Andy at Geno's and we went over all the trouble shooting I already did. He spent over an hour on the phone making sure what the problem is. Outstanding vendor.

I had the same thing happen to me and after talking with Geno's techs I found it was the thermocouple that wasn't working. After Geno's sent me a new one it's been working for five years and now 100k miles.

The original poster's issue sounds like the amplifier box, especially if it has been wet before (probably got some corrosion on the circuit board). I'm very curious about the EV2 mentioned above by WDaniels. So far I only know of one actual gauge failure in the field (it was a bad solder joint on an early board which was re-worked to the current rev).

We have a troubleshooting guide for EV² here.

:rolleyes: and how are you supposed to wash the motor without wetting the box? Kinda has to be done after a blown head gasket pukes oil all over the place. On the second one with new oil , I had to use so much purple and other oxidizing de-greasers that lots of bolt heads and such are completely rusty:{
Funny how none of the other connections or relays or electronic sensors or boxes have failed yet...

Im going with the probe first. Then I will probly rip the isspro out for a pyro without a amp box if that don't fix it...

Pliska,

My amplifer box on my old gages was installed inside the truck. I could't get wet but it would have a real high pitch/whine and after it warmed up it would stop. Then it would just show 600 degrees at idle and 12 just going down the road.

As far as the EV2, I put the new K probe in the same hole as the other and ran my harness into the inside of the cab. Hooked up the wires as the instructions said and daisy chained the power to the gages. The backlighting works as it is suppose to. When turning on the ignition, the gages zero down to the stop, then rise slightly. I then remove wires from the connector, cut them off and slit the insulation(it is getting cold here and the insulation is hard)of the wires, heated them with a hair dryer and installed them. Then took the probe connector off from the harness in the engine compartment and ohmed the harness from the probe connection to the gage connection, works as advertised. Hooked everything up, installed the gage and started the engine and took it for a drive, nothing on the EGT gage. So, Geno's sent me another gage. Will hook up the new gage Monday to see if it works. If not will slave in the entire new set up and see if it works.
