pyro probe location

I did not see this anywhere in the gen 3 forum- is there anything special about the EGT probe location or do we just go similar to previous generations where all 6 dump into two runners just before the turbo.

I figured it was worth asking with the previous generations manifold issues (Allthough they were unrelated to the pyro install)

If you are standing at the passinger fender looking in. I installed mine in the rear of the two exhaust plenums. Be sure to install it pre turbo. I did not even have to remove the turbo to do it. Just did the old "Grease on the drill bit" trick.

pyro probe

I installed mine in the front of two exhaust plenums.

I installed my pac brake first, then I started engine

and turned ebrake on while drilling the hole. blowed

out all cuttings. but I couldn't stand the heat to tap

the hole so used grease on tap. hbowers

Great idea! If you don't have the ebrake, you could have someone hold a board over the exhaust pipe at the moment the drill breaks through. That should blow the cuttings out.

Is there a divider in the manifold all the way to the end? How far off center must the hole be drilled?

Is there a convenient place to pick up boost for my boost gauge?

Thanks.

Would someone please add a picture of where they drilled the manifold exactly. This would be a great help to those village idiots, like myself. :D

Thanks Mark.

Is there any disadvantage to putting the probe that far off center in the manifold? I know there was some discussion on that awhile back in the 12 valve forum.

How thick is that iron in the manifold? It's probably much more maleable on a new engine than one that's been through thousands of heat cycles.

Is there any issue of warrantees if the manifold is drilled? I would presume if you cracked the manifold while drilling it, you'd have to buy a new one yourself, but what about other warrantee things?

aren't the pac brakes pre-drilled and tapped for an egt? is there any reason not to use that? the egt will be slightly lower @ the e-brake but probably not a whole lot lower... . does anybody have any data on that?

I installed mine post turbo since my truck will remain stock and I mainly use it for shut down temps. It cools alot slower than my previous three Dodge Cummins trucks did. But it runs cooler with a load than they did too. Heck! With stock power I can barely hang on to it! This thing's an animal!!! not. :D

from what i understand #1 cylinder runs the hottest that would be a reason to mount it on top closer to #1 piston. just my opinion and that is where i am going to mount mine.
