I just installed a pyrometer. I installed it post turbo because it is stock. While pulling a 13k trailer with my 05 3500 DRW, auto, 3. 73 up some small hills, my pyro would read 875 degrees regularly and at one time read 1000 degrees. I was only driving about 62 MPH.

Is this normal? I am going to be towing up some strong mountains in the West shortly. If I get 1000 in the mole hills of Texas, what will I get later? Is there anything I can do to keep the temps down? Does downshifting lower the temps or increase them?

Any thoughts?

Those sound about normal to me for an '05. Downshifting will lower the temperatures. Highest temperature is generally low RPM, high load.
