Yes, I'm another newby. What an excellent group of members.

I would like to add a fuel plate to my nearly stock truck but before doing that plan to quickly order and install a pyrometer and boost gage then collect temp/boost data then add fuel plate.

I've been leaning towards the Autometer 1/8" NPT whith face gage. Can anyone comment on the quality of the probe. I've seen where some are made of inconel (that is good) but I don't have an overall feel for the quality difference of the major brands. Also if I order the kits from Geno's is it that simple everything needed - one stop shopping - probe is the right length, etc.

Any recommendation's greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

Geno's will set you up. Everything you need comes with the gauges. I've always used DiPricol's but I understand Autometer makes good products as well. Welcome to the group.

I have lost 2 autometer probes this year... . according to one tech at autometer I now hold the record for the most heat passed over one of their probes... hehe;) :p

I am running the Isspro gauges in my 95 and am very happy with them. I have the 3piller gauges ; pyro/boost/transmission temp. That top gauge is a little too close for me. I've been thinking about going to the two piller gauge set and maybe get a combined boost/pyro or something like that. Maybe mount the transmission temp in the dash. still kicking around ideas

Im using Autometer for boost and pyro and I'm very happy with them. Very acurate readings, priced well, and look awesome. Goodluck and welcome to TDR

I am running Autometer also and like them very much. One thing to consider that I don't see talked about much when buying pyrometers is electric vs mechanical. The electric gauges (meaning they are hooked up to a 12v power source) react to temp change in a flash whereas the mechanical ones I have seen are pretty slow. The older DiPricol gauges I have seen were this way. I don't know what the new ones are like or other brands. I personally would not have a slow reading gauge since my truck can get hot. When I press the peddle the gauges move in accordance with my foot pressure. Just something to think about.

They are called K Type thermocouples i believe, just so people know those are the kind I am burning up... . not the standard probe without the "little box".

I don't have a type K thermocouple with a box. I have a Competition Series p/n 5244 in the manifold and then I have the standard probe that came in the p/n 4344 pyro kit after the turbo. This setup has been running just fine for over 40k miles. The gauge has four connections on the back. One is ground, one is 12v+ and the other two go directly to the thermocouple or in my case the switch and then to the thermocouples. See pictures of the probes here if you want: http://www.mark74.com/ram_modifications.htm

Thanks All - good information.

Is the Autometer EGT probe adjustable depth? Or do I even need adjustable depth (i. e. is the street probe the right lenght for a good fit in a 95 12V preturbo).

Thanks again,

Paul
