Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Pyrometer

Anyone know why a pyrometer would work fine for the first 10 ~ 15 minutes when the truck is first fired up in the morning then after driven down the road a few miles the needle starts jumping all over the place.

Sounds like the thermocouple tip has separated. It heats and splits.

Mine did that. I sent it back to Autometer and they sent me a new one. The replacement gauge has lasted for about 6 years so far.
