Pyrometers and Boost Guage Questions

I had a Auto Meter Pyrometers and Boost from Geno's Garage installed in my 93 W250 auto. What are the gages suppose to tell me. Not towing the Pyrometers gauge reads 5 I guess that would be 500 and the boost does not show a reading until the turbo kicks in. What should the boost read at? Jay in NJ

With no load running empty it is normal for there not to be any boost showing. What do you have for pressure when you have your foot in it.

It sounds like your truck is stock or at least near that. With stock settings you will see up to 13 to 14 lbs of boost depending on the load. The pyrometer will tell you how hot the exhaust is and the boost gauge tells you how much air pressure the turbocharger is building. There is a much longer explanation available if you want it. If the pyro is mounted preturbo (in manifold) then you will probably get 1050 to 1100*F. Cruising at 55 mph without a load, I still don't make 600*F on my truck, but as soon as I tap the throttle it comes up as well as the boost. My max boost is 20 psi and max EGT is 1100*F when towing. See my signature for the modifications. If you are stock, it will take forever for the boost to come in. When I first put my gauge in, I thought it was broke until I just floored the truck. Then the gauge woke up slowly. Hope this helps.

Thank you for answering my questions. I have owned my truck since new it is stock. The boast is mounted at the closes point just before the head. That is as far as the hose would go, I wish they had put another foot or two on the hose I mean how much could it have cost then. Anyway that is where it had to be installed in the gray metal section just before the head. I hope it is in the right spot. So Jeremy should I be getting 13 to 14 boost? At first I didn't know it was working until I floored it. Take care Jay in NJ

I have a 91 with no intercooler. I mounted the boost fitting into an existing plugged hole in the side of the intake manifold. There is a flat plate that was blocking access, so I drilled a 3/4 hole thru the plate in line with the plug, removed the plug, then attached the fitting and tubing.

I have Isspro gages, and they provided more than enough tubing to do the job.

My truck is basically stock as well, except for a K&N filter. . I got 20+ psi of boost with the stock turbo housing... . now I get 25 with the 16 cm housing.
