Hello all. (I wish I was more knowledgeable about vehicles so I could contribute instead of just taking info...)

Anyway, I have 2 more questions: 1. Should I be able to lock up my brakes and screech to a stop on my 250 diesel?
2. I've recently noticed that my truck vibrates from about 40mph-47mph. Not sure if this is new or if I'm just more sensitive or paying more attention since this recently has once again become my primary vehicle...

Thanks

PS - not sure if this matters but I've got 403K miles on it

Hi billyO, can you please fill out a signature so when you post, we know a bit about your truck, and anything else related to our topic?

A quick answer, you should be able to lock up at least your rear wheels even if momentarily before ABS intervenes. Even the oldest Cummins Rams have rear wheel ABS IIRC.
Is your vibration in the steering wheel or the seat? I'd tend to agree that at that speed it may be a tire.

Don - Nope, just when driving, and it's probably the front tires...

(and up until last week I was driving through Clatskanie a couple of times a week).

Regarding the braking, I noticed today that it seems to brake better in reverse than forward. Does this implicate front or rear? Due to recent life circumstances, my finances are extremely limited, but my time isn't.
Thanks again.

Does throttle application make a difference? If you are on the throttle when the vibration is prevalent it could be drive line related. If the vibration happens wether you are on the gas or coasting I agree with the above on the probability of tire or brake problems.

Those old Bendix drum brakes can be finicky. The hint that it stops better in reverse is a tipoff that you may have a problem back there. Can you jack up the rear wheels and check drag? Are the parking brakes working correctly? Fully releasing?
