I have been doing some beta testing of the new XZT "Tow box" for Quadzilla. It is a new & improved version of the XZT that is rated at 70hp. I am really surprised with this box so far & want to share some details of my experience with it. I want to let you guys know that my Drag Comp is not back from Edge yet & this quad box is my only power upgrade on the truck for testing.



I have noticed that the XZT low end grunt feels like driving my truck with Smarty, but produces less smoke out the tailpipe. It fuels just as hard as Smarty down low, but feels stronger up top. At around 2800rpm my truck would feel like it was dropping off with smarty, but quad seems to have a second powerband kick in & you don't feel it drop off. It also feels smoother at higher rpms & egts are down 50* with the quad. Best thing about the quad box is 3 levels of adjustability on the fly [stock, 35hp, 70hp] at the flip of a switch. :-laf





I removed the XZT last night & installed it on a 98. 5 truck to test the box with stock injectors. I then loaded smarty software into my 99 & drove the truck home. I noticed immediately that the smarty wasn't fueling as hard as the quad box up high & more smoke was going out the tailpipe. I know that you guys running smarty may think that I fell off my rocker, but I promise you... . I am being honest! Quad is working on some updates for a shuddering with big injectors & after the update is ready for testing... . I will be installing the XZT back on my 99. When the box reaches production... . you guys have got to try this thing! WOW!!!!:eek:

At what RPMs does the Quad box defuel the engine?



To tell you the truth... I'm not sure. I know that I had my truck up to 3000 & couldn't feel it drop off at all. The box I am running is only a small 70hp tow box. I will be doing more testing soon... . had to try it out on a 98. 5 stock truck with a automatic for a few days & the box is doing well with stock injectors.

How does it make its power? Does it change the timing like an ez or can it be used w/o altering the timing? BTW, did you ever put in those DD3's?

The box does timing. It plugs into the Canbus & map sensor only, but I wouldn't compare it to a EZ... . more like a adjustable Smarty. It gives full fuel off idle like Smarty, but also fuels harder on top like a EZ. When quad gets the bugs worked out for the shuddering issue with large injectors..... this little box is gonna be a top seller for the towing crowd. It is very smooth & very aggressive off idle. I never installed the DD3's... . my brother doesn't want to run them because his truck is slipping the stock clutch with just the RV275's in cold weather. They are just sitting on a shelf in the garage. I was gonna try them out, but I just like the Dragons too much & don't want to take any chances on leaks etc.

I've been telling him to do that! I have a Luk clutch 13" kit sitting here that I told him to send to Peter at SB for new facings. Peter gave me a great deal on refacing the disc & a new pressure plate, but he still won't do it. I'm kinda proud of my little bro for resisting the power bug. The truck runs great with the RV275's & Smarty... . don't need anything more.
 
Does the box remove torque management? I doubt it



I am not sure if it deletes it or not... . just sharing my experiences with the box. I am giving 100% honest feedback here... . not criticizing any other manufacturers etc. nothing personal Bob. ;) I am not affiliated with quad in any way... . just testing a box & giving results as I am suppose to.
 
keep us posted! if u could hit a dyno for on/off /staged comparison that would be great! suppose should also tow with it !!

Quad has a box on the way here with the update for the shuddering problem... . I'll have it tomorrow. I will be installing the box back on the 99 for further testing & I'll be posting results. I won't be towing this week... . took the week off to catch up around the house. My wife & I have our first baby due June 25th & I think it may come early..... gotta get the house ready. Really big "honey do" list..... never been more tired. :{

I am not aware of any dyno events etc. in my area until August... . if all goes well... I will have a Quadzilla Race box installed for the event. The guy who is beta testing the race box is saying that it is stronger than a TST/Smarty stack. This is gonna be a killer year for 2nd gen dyno days.
 
The new updated box came in this morning & all I can say is WOW! The shuddering is gone & the power feels smooth as glass. I put 30 miles on the truck today & enjoyed every mile. Of course I had to kick it down a few times & couldn't feel it defuel until 3200... . had to pay close attention to get that number cause the power is very smooth. This is the only power adder [other than injectors] on the truck & I couldn't get over 1000* on the pyro WOT. I'll keep posting results as I do more testing.
 
I got to hook it up to a trailer all day today hauling different loads from 14-15k#. First load was telephone poles stacked high. My truck was sagging bad, but the box wouldn't let you know this while towing. Then I pulled my 15k# skidsteer, fuel tank & attachments to the next place to load railroad ties. I'll put it this way... . I have never pulled a trailer up "Balls Hill" [yes that is the name] faster than I did today. My egts never went over 1100*. Quad really hit a homerun with this box!
