I have a Quadzilla XZT + installed on my 2002 Cummins 5. 9 and have been experiencing what I can best describe as a shudder/surge when the throttle is lightly loaded. I have a new lift pump, new Blue Chip VP44, new fuel filter, Quadzilla Monster Air Intake and 92000 miles. Other than the shudder it runs fine, getting 21 mpg (hand calculated). Push the throttle down and it performs great, no abnormalities. When I switch the module off the shudder goes away but then so does the 65+ extra HP. I've tried downloading varoius programs from their website but can't seem to lose it. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, what did you do to resolve it?

Glad you mentioned this. I have the same issue but with the mileage max box. Both with the Banks Power pack Ottomind on or off. Same exact symptoms. The mileage max is timing only and I think is is very mild as I can detect no change in performance. (Mileage is up thought). I can turn off the Mileage Max and the shutter immediately goes away. I run 275 injectors also, but that shouldn't cause excessive timing advance.

BTW, how do you like the xzt? I think my Ottomind has another bad wiring harness (that would be #3) so I'm thinking of just up grading the milage max and scrapping the Banks stuff. I'd loss some power though.

Driveline

Make sure its not a driveline issue. The rubber donut on the driveshaft midshaft bearing can go bad without shredding. It can cause a shudder you'd swear was the engine. I had the same issue. The dealer had no luck. I looked for months until I called a shop that had seen it before. I didn't even finish explaining the symptoms when they said the driveshaft. It was an instant fix.

Good luck,

Dave

I do like the XZT+. Mileage is up and the power is great. It's the shudder that's the issue. I've heard back from Quadzilla and I'm hoping that they can come up with a fix.

I don't think mine is drive line since it doesn't happen when the box is off. I think it's something to do with timing since that's all my mileage max does.

My is isn't in the drive line either. When the module is off, the truck runs very smoothly. The moment I turn it on to any setting the shudder returns are light throttle settings. I'm now running with the box off thinking that the shuddering may cause damage to my new Blue Chip VP44. And goodness knows I don't want to have to replace that again (took all day Father's Day this year!).

That's an interesting thread. I don't have a miss and it doesn't seem temp. related, but I think I have an old IAT laying around. May I changed and see if it makes any difference.

I just received an updated code for my module from Quadzilla, which I'll dowload this weekend. Hopefully it will resolve this shuddering issue. I'll let all of you know how it works.

I loaded the code they sent me and the shudder was reduced but not eliminated. I went to the web site and noticed that they had a new code posted that stated it would eliminate the shudder in both automatic and manual transmissions. I loaded that one and it shuddered the same as the code that was sent to me. So, I guess I'll live with it being reduced but not totally eliminated. Seems a bit of a compromise as I like the mileage and HP/Torque increases but have to feather the throttle in some circumstances to stop the shudder. Perhaps down the road (pun I suppose) I'll investigate another type of fuel/timing/boost device.

Cheers

I loaded the XZT+_BETA1 code last night and it seems to have completely taken care of my shudder issue. The engine has smooth, continuous power output through all gears regardless of throttle demand; light or heavy. The only other difference from the last code I had loaded is that it seems to be staying in the gears just a little bit longer as it's shifting up through them. However, I don't view this as an issue of concern.

For all of you experiencing this shudder symptom, you can load the code from the Quadzilla Beta update website.

Cheers.
