What can I say... I can't wait for anything.

My options for the 2006 Cummins for now were:

Edge EZ

or

Quadzilla XZT

Since the Edge EZ is just a fuel pressure box & the XZT does some timing and so forth, I went with the Quadzilla XZT and it should be here tomorrow.

Qzilla said the power #'s are still about the same for the XZT for 2006, but said they lost a little power due to the loss of the data connection. Not sure if that meant on the XZT or Xzillaraider or both. They are tweaking the Xzillaraider but it will be a few months.

Anyone got install instructions for the XZT or does it come with pretty good ones? Their site only lists the Xzillaraider instructions.

Same installation, but no switch to fuss with. You'll like it, it works great!

On edit:

Did they tell you how they're changing the timing w/o the data link? Or is the box just pressure and boost fooling now?

JCleary,

I may have badly explained what Qzilla said. I have re-edited my first post to be more accurate in how I understood it. Go back and read my corrected first post.

Last thing I want is giving wrong info about someone else's product, so here is the exact wording from Qzilla:

"WE do have our stuff available for the 2006 trucks. We have actually been testing a lot of things on our new Mega Cab!

The XZT has not really cahnged much from 2005, but the standard and race boxes have changed and will be slightly less power. We will be offering larger horsepower gains for the 2006 trucks, but it will be a couple of months.

Basically loosing the data link cost us about 3 degrees of timing and about . 2ms of fuel duration. I would expect to loose about 1-20hp from advertised gains on the Standard and Race boxes, but the XZT will be the same. "

My guess is that means its now a pressure box. I think the 3 degrees and . 2ms duration is all that was possible through the data link.

Thanks for posting that info, it brings us closer to cracking the specifics that the box makers don't want to publish. TST I believe is capable of 10 degrees and the Juice is still an unknown. . to me anyway.

Cool! If the new one is pressure only, perhaps they'll soon have the ability to stack with TST? I'd love to have mine flashed for that, as opposed to buying a Ramifier or BD Triple Dog when I get the TST... Hopefully next month

Quadzilla XZT arrived today and I installed it an hour ago.

Summary:

The XZT has no data connector, the model for the '06 is the same as the '04. 5-'05. Quadzilla claims that the XZT doesn't do just pressure but also timing so therefore the data link connector must not be the only link for getting the timing stats.

I'll post a review later tonight in a new thread, but overall I'm thoroughly impressed in the 15 minutes I've gotten to drive it. :)

IMO its not fair to say they do timing unless they are actually advancing considerably more than the OEM software is capable of. TS claims the same thing with the ramifier by rewriting the boost map as they say.

What I gather from that is the advance curve changes with boost so if you change what the ECM sees in boost, the ECM will then also change timing, but does that mean "they do timing"?

Thats just my opinion and I would truly like to learn otherwise.

I would like it if the box makers printed what they actually do, like-

  • XX more in psi
  • XX more in timing
  • XX more in duration

Then I could care less about "how" they got there and could base a buying decision on whats best for my needs but its all secrecy. In the gas world they would never sell a product that way.

Well my g/f came in town so I haven't been able to do a proper drive & review but it will come soon.

It's definitely got more power though, crazy how easy it was to install. Took longer to make the hole through the firewall than it did to hook it up. Very simple to burn the tires for a good ways down the road. I did it once and my g/f just gave me the evil look. :)

Now my only problem is that seeing how easy it is to make power on these things, I already want more. Will be a while though for me so that's good.

Quad says they are working on an '06 Quadzilla so I may go with that in a few months considering I'm impressed with the quality and performance so far in their basic box.

So now I'm gonna have to figure out what I need to do between now and then. Air filter? Exhaust? Turbo upgrade? transmission beefup? I've got more research to do now and I see a future of an empty bank account. :)

For your 06 model?

I vote MBRP "600" muffler replacement kit, and then start saving for the transmission mods - Sure you could run out and get a big turbo and injectors, But then you would just burn up your transmission faster...
