I got poking around on the Baldwin site and found they list the water separator as a new product. Part number BF46031. Not listed at any online retailers I checked as of now. I'll check at Fleetpride next time I go for supplies. Still no Baldwin cross for the canister element.

Just checked with my local supplier they have the Baldwin BF46031 in stock. However they cost much more than the same sep filter from the local RAM dealer.

That's just nuts. :-laf

What manufacturer would go through the process of design & manufacturing only to have a retail price on an item MORE than the list price of the equivalent OEM piece?????

I agree. The only way they could make money is on volume sales. If it costs more, that won't happen.

They probably are stuck buying it from or paying royalties to the vendor that makes it for RAM, if it is a patented thread pitch / design then Baldwin has no choice.......

Thermoking has done the exact same thing with the oil filter for the Peugeot engine used in Precedent trailer mount units, put a patent on the thread size and pitch....

No, Ed is getting hosed. I buy from Fleetpride and my price for the water separator is less than $45. I do have an account with them.

I hadn't considered a good, old fashioned hosing.............:D:-laf

Someone is trying to get their filter bonus pumped up for the month, Mama needs a new TV......

I probably should qualify my statement. My Fleetpride bundles some of us small businesses under one purchase account for most maint items which lowers our cost a great deal. One of the counter men told me they have an account with a multi million dollar credit limit. That account would pay a little more than 1/2 of my cost on most Baldwin filters. Volume counts. As a side note, when I replaced my water sep I realized the strap wrench I use .for my oil filter wasn't quite big enough to easily slip over the fuel filter. I have sense picked up a wrench with 4 separate bands. Fits everything I own. It came from Tractor Supply.
